Netlfix backing away and bad boys 4 is on hold now…lol

The week before the Oscar ceremony, director David Leitch — in a stroke of unintentional good timing — withdrew as the director of a planned Netflixmovie Fast and Loose, starring Will Smith. Instead, he moved onto Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling, for Universal, which is supposed to start production in August.

A source says Netflix was competing with Universal to be the next project for Leitch, but Universal pulled ahead. According to sources, Netflix put out an urgent call for another director to take over a project featuring the star who was heavily favored to win best actor at the Oscars. But soon after Smith’s attack on Chris Rock on the Oscars stage, Netflix quietly moved the project to the back burner.

Fast and Loose was to tell the story of a crime boss who loses his memory after an attack. Piecing together clues, he discovers that he has led a double identity as a wealthy kingpin and a broke CIA agent. It appears that Netflix was understandably wary of moving forward. It is unclear whether it will try to make the project with another star and director.

Popular on THR

Smith now has Apple+’s slave escape drama Emancipation in post-production. The streamer had planned a 2022 debut but has not dated its release. Apple declined to comment. Otherwise, Bad Boys 4 at Sony had been in active development — Smith received 40 pages of the script prior to the Oscars — but will now pause, a source said. A few other projects in pre-production are likely to do the same. Netflix did not respond to requests for comment.

In his April 1 statement resigning from the Academy, Smith said, “Change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I never again allow violence to overtake reason.”

I was reading an article about about a popular agent that will no longer work with Will or his studio overbrook and dropped all his projects with them. Will really screwed up his money. A guy like Will always had the keys to the city.. never had doors shut on him. Now he gonna have to adjust to the new reality of no longer being the man and having real enemies and a lot people who don't like him. This is why I think Jada wont stick around much longer. Will being the man in hollywood the perks that came with that was the only reason she was with him cause it benefited her.

A big part of what made him valuable in hollywood was his cross appeal "perfect" non threatening image. He might have been the biggest cross over actor in the world tbh. He was marketable from kiddie disney channel to Action star to drama and foul mouth comedies. The only other actor with that combination right now is The Rock. And now the Rock stands solo on a clear tier well above will smith.

media/h’wood loves to build you up to tear you down to build you up again…ultimately he’ll be fine career-wise but he’s definitely dealing with some serious emotional issues that stem from his situation with his wife…whether he’ll be fine in that respect is a different story

Could you post the article?

The only thing I could find was an article referring to an anonymous agent who coincidentally used The Rock as a reference point.

If we have the same article in mind, you're being overdramatic and misleading. Obviously recent events will play a role, but the article points towards it being a matter of payment e.g. saying Will will have to pay a premium, that he has dropped from A star to A, that he no longer appeals to all demographics.

The comparison to The Rock is ludicrous by the way. Dwayne has a lucrative but narrow lane. He does not have the acting range of Will Smith so he closed out of more roles.

He wont be headlining 100 million cross over blockbusters anymore. His projects are all getting dropped. He is going to have to take time off and when he comes back the landscape will be different. He will do lower budget films and dramas. The lucrative Disney family friendly lane is now closed and owned by The Rock.

One of the things that is funny is comedians showing how full of shyt they are.

Whenever comedians are criticised for being offensive, the first response is that it is just jokes, they should have the freedom to say what they want, that they bring laughter to sensitive topics.

Whilst those points are things I consider, when comedians come out the woodwork saying shyt like "I would have said something much worse" and trying to twist the knife further, it betrays some of the things they say to defend what they do.

They should still be free to say what they want to say, but I think it is insincere of them to ask society to just treat it as jokes. Hard to take that approach when they recognise and use their platform to try and hurt others.
