I was thinking the same thing.

Your friends smashing your mom is something you joke about in middle school. I can't imagine having to deal with that in real life, when you and your mom are both famous. :heh::huhldup:

Call me cynical but I hear this and I see this interview as keeping the Academy out of a lawsuit.

He's saying the joke wasn't scripted - but wasn't there some white dude taking credit for the joke?

He's saying it was Chris's choice to not have Smith removed - why would that even be Chris's choice?

This interview reads like "my name is Bennett and I ain't in it!" aka Keep the Academy out of a lawsuit.

I went to barber shop today, all of them customers and babers were like fukk Will Smith, he was fouled for that shyt. Chris Rock was an easy target which is why Will went after him

That’s exactly what it is but the Academy is throwing him under the bus and saying it was Packer’s choice to let him stay. Plus, it is being said to a source at TMZ that Packer said he can stay.
