As opposed to Roman Polanski who raped an underage girl and not only got an Oscar but a standing ovation? Where is the scale or metric for what offense deserves what punishment versus another offense and the matching punishment? Even more so, you run the risk of cheapening the Oscar to something that can be entirely and utterly effected by forces outside of a given work. It no longer becomes an award of merit in a given field and instead becomes one attached to one's behavior. It risks becoming an award not based on merit.
