Remember the Joke wasn't supposed to be part of the ceremony, Chris went out of his way to insult Jada for absolutely NO reason.


Most of the “Gotcha” jokes at ceremonies like the Oscars are pre-written and preplanned with the celebrities being in on it so that stuff like this won’t happen. Chris SPECIFICALLY put all of that to the side with the intent of insulting Jada. This was personal between them and Chris thought his barb was going against a “weak” target who wasn’t going to do anything.

That's the problem. Will's offense is not on par with those other people mentioned, and it becomes an even deeper issue when you start combing through every winner's life. Tacit support for someone problematic can soon become grounds for an issue. Even more so, the award itself stops being about merit and ability and instead, who is the most sinless. The award becomes useless. That's a terrible precedent.
