I only played a half an hour of it. My impressions were that it has some really cool ideas and presentation that make it stand out for a JRPG, but the the battles were super easy. If you got it for free on PS+ then play it. I was pretty hooked when I was playing it, and pleasantly surprised about the gameplay design.

Just experienced Flower for the first time.

Had this one on my backlog a long ass time and I don't know why. Journey was a fukking masterpiece and the feelings it evoked in me where so rare that I was blown away. I can't wait to revisit it some time.

Flower is made by the same company. Abzu is made by some of the key people that worked on Journey so it inspired to finally dust this off before diving into abzu.

Like Journey, this isn't a "game" to me..it's art in its purest form. Even Roger EBert would probably salute thatgamecompany. Art has always long been intertwined with the emotions it envokes in the observer. And that's what Flower and Journey are about.

This, like Journey will not be for everyone. A gamer who spends all day on madden and cod is probably not going to appreciate this, but I still behest them to try.

It's only around a 2-3 hour experience so you can and should play it in 1 sitting. Of course many of you that would play this one probably did so a long time ago.

If you haven't,clear your mind, throw on some headphones and let yourself live in this. It's worth it. It's the video game equivalent of meditation.

You can use this thread to post about what you are playing now or keep track of what you've finished/your backlog.

Currently playing 'Child of Light' on my PS Vita. Basically an RPG from Ubisoft, it has an excellent and surprisingly complicated combat system, looks great and the boss battles are cool. I like its length as well, its maybe 8-10 hours long. Its a pretty decent challenge on 'hard' difficulty.

Downsides are the generic story, the poetry based dialogue and a couple of weird design choices, like not being able to change your party outside of combat.

shyt's easily a 8.5 though. Currently I'm like 70% done.

I'm also slowly making my way through 'Final Fantasy 7' on my PS4, but I'm mainly playing it via remote play on my Vita. I'm only like two hours in.
Still playing doom and GTA 5(the updates gets better and better)

Now that I'm through the RE5 campaign I'm making my way through the DLC. And yes I'm counting DLC as part of my 50 games to beat in 1 year total :shaq:

Anyway Ive never played the dlc before so this is new to me.

I completed lost in nightmares.

I enjoyed this but it was way way way too short. Like an hour long.

But what was there was good. It's pretty classic RE but with RE5 controls. You even enter a mansion clone from the first game though it's very tiny. It's got all the elements of classic RE,breaking windows, moonlight sonota, cranks (which had some inspired tongue in cheek dialogue "what is with the obsession with cranks?!") The only thing missing is no zombies. You fight the same monster like 8 times in a row. It gets pretty lazy. Then they polish it off with an awful wesker fight.

Meh. Honestly if this was like 5 hours long and little more care it would be amazing. I still liked it but it wasn't perfect.

Finished off Resident EVIL : Desperate Escape

Where as Lost in Nightmares was an attempted throwback to classic RE,this DLC was more of the same action from RE5.

Funny enough I really enjoyed this one. The action was nonstop start to finish. You play as Jill and Josh and it takes place just after Chris and Sheva release Jill from weskers grasp. The enemies are extremely varied for a short play time and you have no shortage of ammo or guns.

It's not classic RE but it was fun.

Alright I finished Abzu.

So,my thoughts. I won't spoiler any of the adventure since it does take some interesting turns.

My complaints about flower and journey stuff being thrown in stand.

Here's my issue. That stuff felt shoe horned in as nothing but....fan service? Maybe I'm reading it wrong but that's how it felt. If so, when your games are aiming for art,fan service has no place.

My main gripe with Abzu is it feels half baked at times. It's a game aiming to be art. But instead of the experience of flower and journey where the way the game makes you feel is the art itself, this game feels like you're merely observing beautiful scenery instead of being apart of it. There is less game play here then either of those games.

I finished it in less than 2 hours and it's definitely shorter than flower or journey.

On the positive side this game is beautiful. I must have taken a 100 photos.

The places it takes you are surprising and that was a pleasant surprise.

Even though it seems like I'm down on this it's still well done. I just expected another masterpiece and this was merely good with moments of greatness.

I will probably revisit this one again down the line and see if anything changes for me. But again it just feels like somebody played flower and journey and tried to make their own and fell short.
