I initially was super underwhelmed by this album because it was just too poppy and basically went in a direction I thought he shouldn't have gone in
But after hearing these songs in various places and then going back and listening to the album, this shyt is a fukking borderline classic Nearly every track on here is a perfect pop ballad, and the absolute best music to play if you're having a good time or at some event or anywhere really where you're relaxing / doing something. I think that's the atmosphere he was going for and Weeknd is one of the best at cultivating atmospheres. Lot of "nostalgia" tunes on here as well in the sense they can capture a moment in time and you'll listen back and return to that place or feeling.
I think settling with the melodies, which is not hard to do because they are really catchy and get stuck in your head easy, on here is key because you won't really "get it" until you find yourself bopping to it. Its honestly like black magic how they did these melodies and everything, I swear I only listened to some of these songs once or twice and its like they became familiar instantaneously. Is it his most dense and artistically ambitious work? Of course not, its a pop album through in and through out. But I think its probably the best listening experience out of all his projects (for me at least)
My favorites: Reminder, Attention, False Alarm, Starboy, Six Feet Under
Classic Album
We didn't need a 2 year bump tho
