I think it's a bit of a straw man argument when people say "HE CAN'T GO BACK TO TRILOGY, YOU"LL JUST HATE HIM FOR THAT", I know those people exist, as do the hipster quasi purists, but I am a real fan. I think there were tracks on the last one, and on here, that pushed the sound forward, but he's missing those tracks that make him such a great artist. And he's released some great music this year outside of the album, that Unreleased album was really raw, even stripped of actual lyrics (In English) sometimes, like 'Lonely Thoughts' and 'Quatre Neuf'. This just feels without edge or grit, emotional skin in the music itself, sterile and edgeless.

I'm a day one stan. @Hiphoplives4eva has no clue what he is talking about. If he did, he would realize that Doc McKinney is all over Starboy. But he is asserting his opinion like it holds weight among real OG fans. This has nothing to do who is producing it has everything to do with The Weeknd
Even with Dirty Diana being on EOS Weeknd wasn't making "MJ lite" songs until the last two albums
It's not necessarily growth that The Weeknd is showing it's just a shift in focus. The Trilogy And KL songs had layers and depth that his new songs simply do not have
