As bad as Hield has been, they don’t have much choice but to keep playing him in that role. He’s still the best floor spacer out of everyone other than Steph, and that’s essential because nobody else is treated as a threat from behind the arc.

Jimmy and Dray need that spacing to be effective. As does Steph.

Someone like Podz is infuriating with how he turns down open 3s because it kills their rhythm and floor mapping. Even if Hield’s missing, it’s typically in the flow of the offense and it keeps the defense honest.

It’s just unfortunate they don’t have any other shooters.

They’ve just got to hope he hits his shots when it counts in the playoffs.

Another game where they should win but don’t. These dudes have yet to win three straight games since mid November. Without a long win streak, the play-in is inevitable :francis:

nah I'd trust Moody over him right now. Moody at least doesn't just outright blow assignments on defense. Buddy goes 2-8 from 3 just like Moody while giving up a boat load of pts.

Nobody treats Moody as a threat from behind the arc, he’s not the best moving without the ball, he has a slow set shot and he can’t defend guards.

Moody would be playable in more lineups if Jimmy could shoot 3s, but since he and Dray can’t, and you’ve got Post (who’s in the early stages of his development) and Looney (who can’t shoot, at all), you need someone else on the floor who can open it up.

And that’s not counting the lineups in which Steph isn’t in. They essentially need Hield on the floor during that time. He’d barely see the floor now if Melton never got injured.

And besides, forcing Hield to grow/adapt into this role is the best chance they've got at contending. It's best to use these games to build that up, rather than just forcing this role upon him in the playoffs.

He and Steph are the only knockdown shooters on the squad.

If you drastically alter Hield's role, then it just becomes Steph and lineups of players who can't shoot. We've seen how that affects Steph and the flow of the offense when he's the only shooter. It ain't ideal, but it's the best they've currently got, unless they can pick up another guard on the buyout market.

Buddy needs a much shorter leash.

And yeah the refs were 100% on some bullshyt, but you CANNOT lose games like this if you're trying for the 6 seed.

Dubs got a bad habit of fukking around for too long - then running out of time.

They did that this game, and and they're doing that this entire season.

And that's on Kerr, Dray, and Steph.

Very unserious this "championship core" is.

Kerr may be washed. He gives Buddy so many minutes like wtf get this bum off the DAMN COURT!

Are they fukking???

And Kerr's "spacing" argument ain't holding water either when the rest of his stat line is all zeros.

We need a more consistent starting 2, and use Buddy like a microwave off the bench.

Replacement only needs to hit 3s at 33% or better while playing decent D and it's a huge upgrade.

Buddy is s a vet & has done the same act on each team. He is what he is at this point.

Good coaches understand that & adapt to maximize his good habits. Tryna force it ain’t gone work.

Imagine if Doc told Giannis to go play like a young AI:dahell:

What the fukk are you even talking about?

How is that Giannis/A.I. comparison even remotely relevant?

All Buddy's asked to do his shoot more and play more minutes. It's not a deviation from what he was already doing, just doing more of it. They can't maximize his "good habits" because they don't have the shooters. It was made worse by the fact they have one less shooter with Schroder's departure, and replacing him with someone that can't shoot.

The Warriors' shooters:

Steph
Hield.

And that's it.

Spacing is imperative, especially when players like Dray and Jimmy need that to be effective at what they do. Steph needs someone else who can take attention away from him above the arc. It's just an unfortunate set of circumstances where they've ended up needing someone like Hield to be an integral piece, because they never signed him with the intention of being so (not to this degree, anyway).

He just had a poor shooting performance last game.

The four games prior to that he was averaging 15 points on 56 eFG%. If they can get that sort of production and efficiency out of him, you take the bad games he has thrown in amongst those kind of stretches. Four good scoring games, followed by one bad game, is better than the reverse.

I really don't quite understand how cats have such a hard time grasping how important spacing is. Yeah, I get y'all don't want Hield playing the minutes he's getting, but the alternative isn't any better.
