people attempt to, with varying degrees of success, communicate with animals, plants, even inanimate objects. there are even old spiritual and religious beliefs that incorporate it. we have careers for communicating with animals. i once saw a woman on tv claim to be in a love affair with a bridge.
i think the question is "do the animals, trees, bridges, etc. know they are being talked to and do they understand the context?"
like does a police dog know that the cop he works with is not just some odd looking breed of dog who leads the pack but is an actual different species exploiting him? are humans capable of understanding high level manipulation from something smarter than themselves? do we need those glasses from 'they live'?
