He would probably take the money but that's an entirely new situation, city, gameplan, rotation, coaching stall to start all over again. He's home here in LA and its like he's playing with friends and family on this team. We'll see.

Clippers need to take regular season more seriously, says Lawrence Frank
Clippers need to take regular season more seriously, says Lawrence Frank
PLAYA VISTA — The LA Clippers did not see the 2022-23 NBA season end the way that they had hoped.

Back in October, the team saw visions of a potential championship parade. Those thoughts quickly evaporated as the reality of the season came into focus. And it’s something that Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank attributed to many factors, one of them being the team needing to take a more serious approach with the regular season.

The Clippers floundered to a 44-38 record, far below preseason expectations. While they did finish with the fifth-best record in the Western Conference, it ultimately didn’t matter after injuries to Kawhi Leonard and Paul George rendered postseason success unobtainable.

“I just think we need to compete harder every single night,” Frank said to gathered media at the team’s practice facility on Thursday afternoon.
“I think we owe it to ourselves, we owe it to the fans. We want to be a championship organization and we have to invest deeper into the process.”

In order to reach those championship aspirations, the Clippers do need to take the regular season more seriously. They need their stars to be on the floor more than on the sidelines, and they need the coaching staff and front office to work in harmony with one another in order to reach those common goals.
The Clippers have been a top-three seed in the NBA’s Western Conference just once in the last eight seasons despite making the postseason six times over that span. As Frank outlined Thursday afternoon, the NBA champion has been a top-three seed in each of the last 28 seasons.

During his 42-minute press conference, Frank touched on many topics, including but not limited to the team’s desire to continue their ongoing relationship with both George and Leonard, as well as their motivation to bring back free agent guard Russell Westbrook.

“We want to bring Russell back,” said Frank.

Westbrook averaged 15.8 points, 7.6 assists and 4.9 rebounds on 48.9 percent shooting over 21 games after arriving via the NBA’s buyout market. Westbrook then put together a five-game stretch in the postseason where he averaged 23.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists on 41 percent shooting before the Clippers were unceremoniously dismissed .

When the topic of Leonard and the structural integrity of his right knee was brought up, Frank confirmed that Leonard does indeed have a torn meniscus, stating that the team found out the severity of the injury after they returned home to Los Angeles following Game 2 in Phoenix. Frank held a press conference one day later, prior to Game 3, stating Leonard was “day-to-day.”

Whether or not Leonard needs surgery on his torn right meniscus is still up in the air, Frank said.

“With a torn meniscus, it's how it impacts each player. It varies, and there's a wide range of treatments. We'll just continue to explore the possibilities and see what's the best form of treatment,” Frank elaborated.

Paul George, who missed the final nine games of the regular season and the entire first round of the postseason due to a sprained right knee, would not have been cleared medically until the very beginning of May, Frank said on Thursday.

“He was on track, that if we were able to get to the second round, where he'd be ready to play,” said Frank.

The Clippers now enter another pivotal offseason in the Kawhi-PG era. The two stars have been injured a lot, and it’s becoming tougher to see a way forward for the team where they can be successful with stars this injury prone.

However, the front office and coaching staff clearly still believe in them. It’s hard not to when the team has been successful with them on the floor, even with it being a lot of stop-and-start in regards to health and availability.

Still, the regular season must be taken seriously. With or without them.

Load management is obviously the phrase du jour in the NBA lately, but there are reasons for it, even if fans hate the idea of their star players sitting out games for reasons dictated by the medical staff.

The Clippers will need the stars to ramp it up and give it their all this upcoming season, and they’ll need the complementary pieces around them to join in the fight, as well, even on days and in games where the stars aren’t there.

Perhaps this season will be a key inflection point and a teachable moment for all parties. That remains to be seen. Either way, it’ll take all hands on deck, or else next offseason will arrive at the same speed as this one has.

Lawrence Frank said "we need to get the trust back of our fans and take the regular season seriously again." How is this going to happen when the main silent culprit who's the face of this disfunction and injury riddled season is still the face of this team? HOW? Where's the change going to come from? WHO is going to change this? It sounds like they're only hope is to resign Russ who'll basically play every game and fire the team up unlike the faces of the franchise -This was made clear during Lawrence's press conference. Kawhi won't say one word from his lips but man a simple, "Hey ClipperNation, rough season this year but sit tight. We'll get back on track for next season and fight. Let's Go!" Man something so simple like that would go a billion miles in the right direction for this fanbase, front office, team, and coaches. Will it happen of course not. We only get rumors of him wanting out and issues with the front office and medical staff right on cue. I'm glad PG talks and attempts to make things right with the fans but it seems like his Podcast is everything for him right now. It looked real bad when he made the joke about his return to the team. He's got to have better awareness moving forward.

But also will Morris still be on the team? Did Ty Lue say he wants to give a few other players some opportunities next season instead of the Morris Showcase? Will the youth get their shot to add something to the team? Are they looking forward to the draft since we have our picks this season? Will they finally trust Mann and give him his earned minutes next season? In other words GIVE US SOMETHING! -even if its bullsh*t! I don't know fellas, the optics and what's said and not said doesn't add up at all. As of right now, if Russ isn't resigned, all I see is a repeat of last season. And if that happens, get ready for a total meltdown and civil war inside the locker room, the front office, and the fanbase. Meanwhile the Lakers will continue to own the world and keep churning along with players, old and young, that go out and fight game in and game out.

If Kawhi is going to say the stupid shyt that PG does I’d either he stay silent. Nothing he says is going to be more important than winning games.

The Clippers could win the next ten titles and they're not going to stop the lakers from “owning the world”.

I feel for clipper players. They legit play in a city that majority of the city is happy they lose. Ballmer should have took them to Seattle, his we own LA gimmick back fires big time

Its a Lakers town but if these guys play consistently and win games alot of residents will love them. They needed to make a bigger impact in the four years that they've been here. That's my only problem. Clipps have a good sized fan base and a lot of transplants don't like the Lakers. The metro is 20 million people. The Kings were kicking the tires on moving to Orange County before they built their new arena. So it could've been three teams in the area which is still easily doable cause LA and Cali in general loves the NBA. The new arena in Inglewood is going to be the shyt.

The stoop with dat dope fanny padding
Looks like Harden is on the way. Not a fan of his game, but I'll have to root for him if he joins the team right:ehh:

I guess we'll have a variation of at least two of these dudes playing throughout the season. Gotta keep Mann on the team no matter what tho

If you think morey is gonna trade harden for Marcus morris and Norman Powell you’re even dumber than I thought

It'll be three players more than likely but the Sixers are at a disadvantage cause Harden is supposedly "disgruntled" and wants out to only one team which is the Clipps. Plus he's an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season which basically makes him a one year rental. It would be a much different scenario if he was signed & locked in for the next 2-3 years. We'll see
