Let’s be clear about Nigeria’s Fourth Republic. Poor governance is not a circumstance which is unique to the Niger Delta. Every state in Nigeria, from Abia to Zamfara, is cursed with bad politicians and weak institutions. But contrary to popular opinion, the worst governments do not exist in the Niger Delta. Rather, the worst politicians in Nigeria live among some of those who wail the loudest about the Niger Delta. They live in the North. In particular, the North-East region surrounding Lake Chad.

The North-East region of Nigeria is the poorest of the six geopolitical zones of the country. The poverty rate there is roughly 76 per cent and likely far worse now after the rampages of Boko Haram (Insurgency in Nigeria: A Comparative Study of Niger Delta and Boko Haram Uprisings, Journal of Asian and African Studies 2015, Vol. 50(2) 208–222 Iro Aghedo). Furthermore, the literacy rate of Borno State for adolescent males and females was 46 and 35 per cent, respectively. These statistics on the quality of human life place the North-East in a far worse position than the South-South/Niger Delta. Seemingly, the political elites of the region have failed to make adequate progress on uplifting their people — unlike the political elites of Imo State, which has implemented policies to push the adolescent literacy rate of both men and women to 98 per cent. The political elites of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States lord over their peoples with wealth which has been wrongly extracted from the Niger Delta.

Southern Nigerians always sound like cacs when talking about northern Nigerians making sweeping generalizations about an entire population "they are dumb terrorists and savages and holding our country back, make Nigeria great again " :Motherlandmjpls:

That's what I've been peeped for a while now

In a way, it's understandable since many of these brehs have had their families massacred during the war. That hate is understandable.

But us impartial brehs cannot get caught up in that. We need a balanced view of what's going on, and that's very difficult especially if you only listen to one side.

Re: Boko Haram - No, but no other militant groups has killed as many (aside from Fulani herdsmen) nor displaced 3-4 million MUSLIM Northerners.

re: Secession - Most Igbos want actual federalism, which Northern elites oppose. Yoruba elites want federalism to - the North opposes it because they know that if we had any semblance of federalism, the North would be beggared. The North's poverty and backwardness holds back all of Nigeria. We should have the autonomy (just like how the North decided to have Sharia) to choose our destinies.

Re: Union by force - There's no other way to describe how the North has killed thousands/tortured/killed who are advocating for secession since 1999.
