People LOVE the rags to riches stories, not only because it "shows" that "anyone" can make it but also that only individual actions matter. Such a way of thinking is to be expected in an ultra-capitalist world. It's basically another "bootstraps" story of "hard-working" people who "made it on their own". Anyone with two functioning neurons knows that that's bullshyt but taking into account context, background etc is "socialist"/communist/making excuses" to most of these people simping for capitalism.
This is big facts.

The funny thing is if you tell or point out to somebody that they got lucky where things kind of fell into their lap and they'll be defensive about it. "Nah, I did it all on my own!"

However, if you ask the same person to let them tell you about a time where maybe the ball bounced their way a time or two and if they're not straight up delusional they'll tell you straight up how lucky they were.

People are straight up glory hounds but they don't realize life is much bigger than they are.

Things must fall into place every-single-time in order to magic to happen.

Meanwhile people will make moves to prevent that kind of magic from happening for other people. That's capitalism right there.

You answered your own question, everyone of black American ancestry has white in their background. Some just have more than others...

Sonya and Dell are both from Virginia, which is The Motherland of Black Culture in America. There are entire families with generations of light skin blacks in Virginia, of course there's white in there somewhere---->but no one has a white parent in some of these families for generations. Virginia is also the only place I've ever lived where BLACK people can trace their ancestry back to the boats...

Not everyone black, of course, but more people than you meet in any other state by far. Virginia is a special state and is wildly underrated in its importance in the foundation and framing of American black history...

Steph just comes from a line of generational light skin nikkas from Virginia; in Virginia nor a single black person FROM Virginia would look at them and think "must be mixed". It's alot of black folk like them running around that have to go well beyond grandparents to find the white ancestor...

The Tatum thing is funky but genetics can be weird sometimes. I'm guessing his mom and/or dad and/or baby moms may all have recent white ancestry, or some combination of the three, which would explain his son....

That white boy gonna grow up around mainly black folks in his immediate family (parents and at least three of his grandparents are black, maybe all four), and he's gonna grow up rich to boot with the white privilege his appearance will grant him. Gonna be real interesting how his life arcs...

That’s where y’all losing me. That’s still being mixed. The genes didn’t go away. If you have admixed people marrying and having kids with other admixed people, the kids will not be full black. That’s not logical. It doesn’t matter how many generations we’re talking about. That’s like Zoe Kravitz marring another lighter complected person with mixed ancestry and their kids doing similar than decades later some future Coli nikka seeing their lightskin blue eyed great grandchildren and saying they “have no white family members so they’re full black” completely ignoring that their recent relatives were mixed people marring other mixed people. Everyone needs to take a genetic test then they’d see what I mean.

I disagree, that's why "-lite" was thrown in and is important.

na, yall overdoing it with these "there ain't gonna be no more "real" black people in America in 50 years. It's gonna be a bunch of light brights running around looking like drake and mariah"

ADOS don't even mix out with non-blacks at a high enough rate for this to happen....this ain't like what black brits are doing doing out in the UK:mjtf:

Demographically it's only gonna get worse for aa's, blk passing biracials will eventually be the future of blk America.

Lol. It was about class Rhakin posted it in here. Basically the whole something from nothing thing stopped sometime around the late 80s. Something like 60 to 67 percent of black NBA players come from the top 20 percent income percentile neighborhoods. But lol, my people were commenting on it too. My dad said the Supreme Court about to make half of the NBA draft impossible :deadrose:

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Why not focus on the majority? A lot of women from all races marry out (even more than black men).
Because this is the NBA we are discussing. So black men are dominant. So if we are going to ask why we suddenly see so many mixed kids in the NBA, it's obvious that these black men are having babies with these white women (for the most part). They don't have to marry them or even date them to have sex and have a baby. So these days, we are seeing a lot more of them because in 2000 when they had them, it was a lot more common than in 1980 or 1960.

I'm mainly talking about the people who think there is a sudden rush of them because of superior genetics and not because laws changed and minds changed about interracial dating.

I took Ancestry and 23&Me and came out as about 25% white on both. But that's me in my avi, you can't look at me and see white in me, right?

For the record, on my paternal side my great grandma (mother of my still living dad's mother) was a white woman from Sacramento who died in the 70s; on my maternal side, my still living grandmother's paternal family were Creoles from Louisiana, by her accounts a ton of light brights on her dad's side which we know Creoles are "mixed" by definition...

So for myself, even though I'd fall under a "fully black" standard that is defined as two black parents, I also understand that being just 3 generations removed from a white ancestor on my paternal side, and likely no more than 4 generations removed from white parentage on my maternal side, it's easy to understand that a have a good amount of white in me. Not gone lie, 25% seemed really high, but I get that genetics doesn't work like simple math...

I'm saying that to say, they are still black to me, Steph doesn't even have someone identifiable as "Caucasian" in his immediate family. The thing these black "gatekeepers" always seem to forget is that many of our freedom fighters throughout our history on this soil were quote/unquote "mixed". Are we going back and calling those brothers and sisters nonblack too?

The standards of blackness always move from two black parents to one black parent to no black parents to no one can be "mixed', to more and more disqualifiers, yet we lament our lack of representation DESPITE having all these disqualifiers for who we consider black...

I do appreciate your knowledge on black genetics that frame your opinion, because many of us don't even have that, I just disagree with you. Steph is black. So are Dell and Sonya. They have white ancestry in their line just like you and I, they just probably have more, but they didn't ask to be born and they aren't the ancestor(s) who procreated with someone white (if that creation was even voluntary anyway). They not responsible for how they look, fam and certainly aren't responsible for who their ancestors are...

Also all of these "questionably black" people to you consider themselves black and have lived a black existence their entire lives...

Middle-class kids have always been more likely to make the NBA than poor kids. They did studies of '90s ballers that showed no matter whether you're black or white, you're less likely to make the league if you're poor.

It's even worse now though because there is so much focus from an early age on all that extra shyt. AAU, camps, skills training, etc. All of which gives the kids with money and opportunity a leg up. Plus the Black middle class is larger than it was 50 years ago and the international competition is better, meaning there are that many fewer slots that the poorer Black kids are competing for.

Basketball just a microcosm of the problems across all of society. Poor kids have a disadvantage in EVERY career path. This is just reason #831 why we need to be working for equal opportunity for all kids.

very interesting to see this on the male side because it was blaringly true/clear to me as a kid. all the female camps were like 85% white, black parents who could pay $400-1000 for a 4-6 week basketball camp were few and far between, these white girls was out there balling cuz they been in camps and leagues since 1st/2nd grade
