Just off celebrity, it was 50. Snoop is the most famous rapper in the world and has been for some time just off his celebrity but it took very long for him to be this widely known.

50 got to near Snoops level of celebrity such a short amount of time it is staggering when you think about it. It was crazy how popular he became.

Also had a cross cultural/genre impact 50 never had. He was in with the stoners, metal heads, hackey sack kids, ravers, etc..

GRODT dropped on the day I graduated from boot camp. Went the bx and that shyt was sold out. Had a 8 hour ride to my tech school and another guy on the bus had it. Had to wait for this nikka to listen to it, fall asleep, and tap him on the shoulder so I could listen... Bumped that shyt for 4 hours straight and bought the first copy I saw the next day.

I've never seen in real time an artist explode like how he did, even people in some rural areas where I'm from knew him or of him and this was way before the internet, even more amazing, older people who did not know what hip hop was knew him too. This was when dancehall and reggae and local music had a big chokehold on us and he crushed everything just like that.

Other than him, Pac was the other mythical figure to a lot of people but I wasn't present to witness what it was like.

As a Pac stan I can't say its even close. Only other rapper that came close was Eminem if you factor in cacs and how those two were household names in mainstream media. If were only talking black folks than Pac was about equally yoked,but its doubtful he got the universal love 50 did for obvious reasons. And Eminem didn't either among black people,but you still had the curiosity element among nikkas even if they weren't the biggest Eminem fan. At least when he first came out that is. But 50 fell off so hard and so fast it ain't even funny. And I knew his music wouldn't age well even back then
