it pretty much turns into a sitcom by the 3rd rewatch. thats what makes it so great. its one of the best dramas of all time but can also classify as a comedy

ya I was reading something from david chase who said he regards it as much a comedy as he does a drama

the mistake I made when I first watched it was going into it viewing it strictly as a drama…at the time folks who I were talking to kept saying it was better than “the wire”…so I marathoned the whole series over the course of a few days…but I was so biased/intent on it NOT being better than “the wire” that I didn’t view it objectively…I was too focused on the drama…there was a thread on TLR that pointed out how funny the series was and it made me rewatch it with fresh eyes…I still like “the wire” better but I totally understand now and respect the opinion of those who enjoy this more

it’s amazing all the humor I missed in this series the first time I marathoned it :mjlol:
Same. Watched it in my early 20s and honestly wasn’t impressed. Thought it was definitely a good show. Did my first rewatch early this year and the show moved to my number 1 spot. Can’t believe I don’t remember all this comedy. :heh:

Uncle June had some of the best lines and delivery the whole show. He was a pervert who hated ugly feet. Absolute comedy every time he was on the screen. His glasses though were always fukked up. The arms never went around his ears lol. Tony was double fukked though when it came to dementia though. Clearly on both sides of his family.

Also one thing I noticed on this watch was how active p*ssys wife was getting. She was shylocking. Basically stepped up for her family. Again brings me to Meadow. I'm almost sure she's the one who steps up post Tony's death. She might be a lawyer, but I can see her doing the same, or at the least going under Angie's wing. Carmella wasn't going to be strong and independent post Tony. This was already shown to us when she tried and failed to divorce Tony. Angie was the only wife to show initiative and get her own shyt. Albeit different scenario, but she was clearly making moves. Meadow has already shown she has shown she could be indifferent to the life they live.

More layers then an onion

Same boat. I watched both when they aired and Sopranos got this super-sized acclaim while The Wire got minimal. IT. PISSED. ME. OFF! So while I enjoyed the Sopranos there was a part of me that thought it was highly overrated especially compared to the Wire.

Im I the only one who missed that Little Carmine was George W and Rusty was dikk Cheney. They even used real life quotes from Cheney.

“I predict the guys in the streets in BK and Queens will welcome as heroes. We’ll roll right over them.”

He even wore Cowboy boots and shirts. I didn’t pick up on the W angle, but I remember wondering why is a wise guy in NY dressing like he is from Texas?

The Sopranos has more character nuances plus a super strong lead. James Gandolfini as an actor is unfukkwithable. His range is super crazy, and the closest the Wire has is Dominic West. I prefer the Wire, but Sopranos is just a c*nt hair better simply because of a more centralized cast. Both are amazing shows and the fact that you can write essays on every single episode of both shows is amazing. I could spend a year watching both shows and never complain of boredom. I would honestly love a David Chase/David Simon/Ed Burns mini series.

Both are neck to neck for me. I find the Sopranos to be a lot more watchable though. As a black person, the Wire is just too real to watch as often as I watch Sopranos.
