They didn't have to take him. They could have taken Eddie Jones instead who still had trade value.
Brian Grant was a scrub who had 3 years left (43 mil) on his deal with no trade value.
We could have gotten better. Shaq was one of the 2 most popular players in the league who was still a top 4 player.
I don't know if you remember, but everyone around the league at that time thought Mitch was a joke for making that trade.
