for many black people, lower/lowend middle class has to be the minimum. you are losing if you are behind the curve. :to:

this is why marrying the right person is so important. u can have dual income and really do some things :win:

if I had a low to medium earning spouse, I'd easily be on the high end for my state.

Aight look, I’ll play this game. For a married couple making 300k in SF after taxes, assuming you maximize your 401k - your monthly take home is 13782 or so.

Now factor in the cost of a middle class home in a decent school district - 1.66 million. You are now at the point of paying 8700 a month on your mortgage including property taxes.

Now factor in childcare expenses and any other debt you may have like student loans. You operating off a few grand a month in disposable income.

You cannot actually afford to live in a decent SF neighborhood while also planning for your child’s future and vacations. That is what people love further away from those metros when they start raising a kid and take the longer commute. It’s also why taking away remote work or hybrid models is fukked up and doesn’t take into account the costs your workforce incurs. You can live farther away if you have to be in the office a couple times a week, 5 days a week is a different ball game.

This is the point @dora_da_destroyer is making. This is also the case for Manhattan and popular Brooklyn neighborhoods.

There is no game to play. You're adding in a bunch of variables that weren't previously discussed. Obviously if you have children this plays out differently. Everything in life plays out differently if you have children.

The discussion was a single person, or even a couple, making 300k+ in San Fran/Bay Area (Santa Monica/Playa Vista, or Manhattan, or Zurich/Paris), or wherever, and living "lean." You guys started adding in previous debt, and now kids, and this and that. Nope. Single person, 300k in a city like San Fran or Manhattan where a decent number of people make that and more.

This isn't "theoretical" or, putting some numbers in an online calculator, this is my life. These are the lives of my friends and co-workers.

Did you forget about taxes, retirement, savings, other debt…your take home ain’t $15k
Yeah the funniest part about getting paid is seeing that gross pay and what your actual net pay is with all those deductions and that's before you have to pay your actual bills to live out here lol

I was at 40 I think. Just crazy.

And federal minimum wage has been 7.25 since 2009.

Should be adjusted to 10.75 for inflation alone.
does federal minimum wage really mean anything tho? my state minimum is $15 and the city minimum is $16, and those supersede the bullshyt federal wage.

I’m not responding anything you just said besides the first sentence because anyone with experience would take into account these “variables.” It’s called being a fukking adult. But apparently you needed me to walk you through that. Those “variables” are literally the concept of the American dream and upward mobility and a healthy life. Anyone not taking that into account has no business participating in the conversation.

Dude describing that salary like people making that are freshman in college doing fukk else.
