The US/Europe has more power than I realized with sanctions. 40% of Russia's available money is tied up in other countries' currency and they don't have enough real assets internally to sustain any kind of blocking of trade. All they could do is stop their oil production really, which would be problematic for a few months until eastern Europe pivoted to Middle Eastern oil, which I'm sure Saudi Arabia would be more than happy to provide.
They might fukk around and make Putin disappear if they froze everyone's money and stopped imports to the country. The Russian people aren't even happy with this move. Not really sure what his endgame was here other than to get Ukraine to back down from entering NATO. I mean I get it, you don't want a bunch of people with guns at your front door, but when you do the math it's just posturing.
That is why the Oligarchs they are mentioning is pissed. Putin on his USSR Russia must come back trip when the sanctions that will take place will fukk the oligarchs money up long term. I mean serious impact with the NATO countries and America involved.
Putin has been a terrible leader for Russia. He had decades to improve the country but he so far up America ass that China passed them

My thing is this, why didn't they do this when Russia took Crimea back?
China is really the only player who say "fukk what the West" wants because they have a diversified economy and their military is starting to become a problem. Russia only has the military. No major country is going to war anymore unless an outside country is trying to enforce regime change.

I'm a bit out of the loop but this Russia shyt seems like a bit too random. Like it's a distraction of some sort. Putin had all this time to let his nuts hang and all out invade Ukraine since 2014, why now? Especially with Trump out of office. Anyone withe knowledge, share some facts with me.
It’s a good time for Russia to anex some more land or install a puppet. The world is in disarray due to Covid, and the democratic superpower (the US) is dealing with our own problems. If I was Putin, I’d be strongly considering doing it now too. From a democracy perspective, it’s bad though
