I think USA would try much harder to handle it diplomatically, and only use force as a last resort, but you better believe if that didn't work our military is running up in there. Isn’t that simple. UKraine was going to be targeted for invasion regardless of if they sided with the west. Siding with the west just quickened it because they knew invasion would happen.

I wouldn't trust either governments' claims about the number of casualties. Remember when Armenia and Azerbaijan inflates each other's losses. Or when Afghan government keep claiming they killed hundreds of Talibans a day. We should wait until the conflict is finished to know what's actually happening.
