Mostly propaganda, the same Israel deporting and committing human rights abuses is looked at as a hero. :comeon: There was even a shytty ass movie about it called the Red Sea Diving Resort.
No kidding : dwillhuh:

This made no sense to me, but I could have sworn Israelis hate Ethiopian Jews.

Yet this story has nothing but feel good vibes written all over it.

The Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jews) did end up in Israel but were never given asylum, they’re in limbo. There are plenty refugees there subject to racist violence everyday. Unless they have passports they can’t leave to go somewhere safe and seek refuge. It’s bs. I have family who’ve been in Israel and said they’d rather be deported to Ethiopia or Eritrea. It’s horrible there.

Let’s keep it a buck. Back then, during the age of empire, African nations got caught slipping.

I have this convo with my Dad all the time. When Europeans where making guns and ships, wtf where my “Nigerian” ancestors doing? We’ve always maintained Europeans are not inherently better than Africans, but when push came to shove what happened?

The winner rights history at the end of the day. Anything else is a concession.

Been talking with my sisters about BLM and it got us talking about the plight of black people globally. I'm of the the belief that black anywhere in the world cannot and will not be seen as equals until there's a black nation (South Africa is a black majority nation so it's different) that is well functioning and people can point to as being a relative success.

As much as people gripe about Indians and Chinese, they have some of the biggest economies and have established themselves as leaders in outsourced IT and outsourced manufacturing, respectively. There's something firm they can take pride in. You can take pride in culture, yes, but we live in a world (for better or worse) where achievement is marked by economic well being. All you need is one large African nation to lead the charge.

It's really a shame because Nigeria really fits the profile but the current governance is beyond inept.

My bigger worry is that the gap/chasm is slowly getting too big to close.

Breh I agree with you 100% and have thought the same thing for years now. If we just had maybe 2 or three black countries at atleast mid-income level.. black folk globally would be in a far better position. Japan, China, South Korea rising did benefit and uplift all of asia. Some boats may have not risen as high, but it did benefit asians as a whole.

Hell we can march, protest, beg, make religious/intellectual pleas for others to see our humanity/respect us/whatever..but at the end of the day all of that shyt really doesn't matter. Because the world really don't care about that stuff.

I was rooting for Nigeria too...back when they had Goodluck as president, then :francis:
Real talk I thought back then Nigeria was on the road to pulling it off.

and that growing gap is my worry too. Because I think we might be in a closing window on industrialization. Hell I think we all talked about that before in one of these threads. These next 10-20 years are going to decide how the next few centuries look for us all.

So much to be pessimistic about, but I think we will get out of this.

My man. You're so right about Japan, China and the rise of the Asian tigers. Now you have East Asia as a whole on the rise (Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia etc).

On the bolded, I can speak to the Goodluck presidency as I was still in Nigeria then and I had numerous family members high up in the political circles. Jonathan's administration had a lot of the technocrats you'd want in key sectors (Finance, Energy, etc) and a lot was done to encourage private sector investment, but implementation was lacking.

GEJ also needed to have done more to really diversify Nigeria's government revenues. Still, there was a lot of optimism when he came into power. Dude just had some very crooked advisers around him, corruption was rampant but the money "trickled" down so to speak.

But Buhari's terms have been absolutely rubbish. No economic growth, huge government borrowing, the administration has been slow to act and react, terrible implementation of currency controls and an empty corruption campaign.

But I'm still very optimistic for the African continent as a whole, but these next 10-20 years will be crucial.

Maaaaaaaannnnnn, if I told you about this place called Northern Nigeria :francis:

Please explain :feedme:

Didn't want to derail the other thread.

Anyway, in the Islamic faith, men are generally allowed to take more than one wife. Up to four if I'm correct. Much, if not all of Nigeria's northern population is Muslim (the yellow region and the pink region above the compass on the right)

Map-of-Nigeria-showing-the-six-6-geopolitical-zones-For-interpretation-of-the.png

The issue is, education levels in the north are far far lower than in southern Nigeria. Moreover, there's less industry and prosperity in the North (different convo for a different day) so what you have is men taking up to 4 wives and then having like 2-3 kids with each wife without being able to take care of them.

What then happens is these kids are sent to "Almajiri" which are Islamic schools that are meant to teach kids about Islam and the faith and will often neglect other subjects required in the modern economy e.g. science, english, history etc. Full disclosure, what is being practiced now is a far cry from the original intent/outcome of the program, but we are dealing with now.

Another issue is a lot of those schools are poorly run and funded. So what you end up having is a lot of young kids that are illiterate, beg in the streets and are damn near unemployable. It's a big problem. Northern Nigeria has some of the highest rates of young kids out of school. Some even say these schools are a breeding ground for young kids to be radicalized by Boko Haram in the future (jobless, illiterate, hungry etc).

Off the ADOS “train”

No disrespect to any of you who actually do have roots they can trace, but as I’m tracing mine and doing research I’m all but certain my family (my mother’s side) was either here in America already, or came here like true immigrants.

I’m so tight about all this police violence.
It hurts me deeply and it makes me so tired. I can only imagine what it’s done to y'all. I hope you’re all well.

I just need to ramble:

The Maafa (Swahili term forThe Great Disaster”) shall be avenged and rectified.

The mass enslavement of the millions upon millions of Africans who were sold by their own people breaks my heart. We forsook each other and we weakened ourselves and this opened up Black people to be globally brutalized and antagonized for centuries. I see the way that negrophobic racism has devastated diasporic communities and my blood boils.

To the sisters and brothers who are suffering in the Americas and Western Asia, reparations shall be delivered but not just from those who enslaved you but those who sold you as well. Africa owes you various forms of reconciliation and chances to control your own destinies. Pan-Africanism isn’t dead it must just evolve to meet the needs of a changing world.

I am not my brother/sister’s keeper but I am my brother/sister too. I will help you to liberate from the shackles of white and Asian oppression. None of us are free until all of us are free. No more just talking. Let’s make this happen.

There is a global Chimurenga (ChiShona word for revolution) brewing and it is desperate to set the diaspora free. It is desperate to see black humanity elevated. If you’re black and you’re about freedom and power, I’m rooting for you.
