The Rock doesn't deadlift, only squats every now and then.

While I do love the way my whole body feels after deadlifting and it's probably my favorite exercise I'd be lying if I said there wasn't an ego element attached to doing them because for most people it's usually your heaviest lift.

At the same time, those other exercises he listed are way more quad than hamstring so I don't really get the response. But then again he looks like him and I look like me and his bicycle collection is much larger so :manny:

fukk that, I tried to get off that squat/dead wave... shyt is so fundamental. Even if you arent looking to hit 3-5 plates just being able to squat/dead is good for your posture, bone density and general muscular balance

Nobody is paying me to run around shirtless though so :manny:

there is no need for squats or deadlifts esp deadlifts. you can achieve a great fiseek easily without them. im looking the best i ever have since i started focusing on calisthenics without the bullshyt lifts

i hear ya. i work my legs alot during my job picking things up and shyt plus they are ok from years of hockey. i bought all home equipment for dips, pull ups and push ups and i can make them all weighted with belts and straps so im good. the only weights i use are for curls and i got the bars and bells for that. 2 years ago it was strictly weights at the gym for me....never again

if i didnt work a labor job id have a gym membership for legs.....to be honest you can get a great leg workout by power walking a few miles if you already dont have chicken legs.

He's "aided" and squats/deads are not needed for growth. Easier to program routines without DLs in the mix and better recovery. He's had a surgically repaired hernia last year. Also, because of his career, he can't risk getting injured exercising, so "safe" lifts it is...

Yeah I'd have to experiment. At this stage my legs are a good size, there's a good chance I can presumably maintain this size, give or take, if I cop a weighted vest.

@Spliff what you are trying say by "aided" :shaq:

My boy gets at me for not doing dead lifts. I happy to hear others say they are not necessary.

Deadlifts are such an overrated exercise if you are doing other powerful exercises, like squats, cleans and some auxiliaries.
I'd go so far to say it's best as an exercise for when you learn how to lift, useful for building up a foundation of strength in you legs, and using squats or a squat variation for balance, power, form, and maintenance of the leg muscles. Plus it's so time-consuming, having to put a bunch of plates on and strip it just for the simplest motion :rudy:

Yeah I'm pretty sure he's on roids now, but even if he isn't, he admitted to taking them in the past and from what I hear past usage always helps too.
