I trained for years before i left PA(Blue Belt BJJ) and a bit of boxing/mma. After a 3 year layoff i think im gonna pick it back up. Heading to this gym tonight to see if I like it. Gonna train with these guys for a week and see if i want to stick around. Hopefully i'm not too :flabbynsick: at this point.

there's a boxing/mma gym i had a punchcard membership for about 20 mins from where i work..punchcard because it was cool for boxing and mma but the weight equipment which i hold in regard was lacking..so i didnt want a contract or replace my current gym...so i went there to keep the hands sharp outside of my usual gym days but i dont like paying for 2 gyms :hhh:..just want everything in one like my old gym in worcester :wow:.i miss that place...what gym is it?

I'll do cardio on my own. I still have rugby to help with that spring season starts like next month or some shyt and i havent jogged in months :whoo:

This spot has some weight equipment, i'll peep when i get there tonight to see how up to par it is..i also don't wanna pay for two memberships :aicmon:

It's at South Shore Sportfighting in Norwell. Like a 20 min drive from the crib.

Part of me wants to get back into it. I start weightlifting and play with aspects of fitness in the gym. I can't just go in there and do a bro split. Bodybuilding style of lifting bores me.

So I sometimes hit the bag or see someone hit it and get excited. Then I realize my cardio sucks and my timing is off, so I start doing more cardio, hitting the bag more.

Then 2-3 weeks later I'm hitting the bag as aggressive as I used to.

I miss training, but I work an office job, 33, and don't want to get injured. :mjcry:

But damn temptation all around me :wow:

Coli wolves have at me more of an MMA/TMA background than pure boxing.

Would love some critique on my hands more than anything. Love boxing think its the GOAT combat sport.

I was older when I get into grappling so no Olympic style wrestling my high school didn't have it. Mad disappointed that it didn't I would've loved it.


My grappling experience is mostly catch wrestling and bjj. I like stand up / freestyle wrestling better than ground fighting though I have a stronger inclination towards it and it works well at my preferred range (clinch/dirty boxing range). I don't believe in the bjj just pull guard philosophy that is common at a lot of schools. I train both and take what I think is good/practical and throw out the rest.:yeshrug:

your right hand has no weight transfer. weight transfer is when you transfer your body weight from leg to leg as you rotate your hips. to throw a right hand you rotate your hips and transfer your body weight over your front leg.

to transfer your body weight over your front leg, rotate your hips and move your upper body over your front leg in a downward forward motion. your chest is going to come just over your front knee.

this motion is what causes your body weight to be concentrated over your front leg. when you throw your right hand this way, you are not just throwing your hand, you are throwing your body weight.

whenever your body weight is concentrated over your front leg you are now ready to hook.

to jab push off of your back foot and slide your front foot forward.

Your explanations of mechanics are amazing! :blessed: The gifs and images really help me get a visual idea of what I need to be doing.

Thank you so much for taking the time to critique my technique gonna drill this at my gym.

Going to post up some sparring footage as one of my training partners is really good at landing a right counter off my jab. I think he is getting his lead foot outside of mine but I'm not entirely sure.

Your explanations are better than my coach from a striking perspective mma cats can't box for shyt.

I was going to post my sparring vid but it is pretty embarrassing:sadcam: always thought I had good hands but I realized when pure boxing I am just another wrestler with an overhand.:mjcry:

So I went back to mitts to try and fix a few things. I guess what I need to work on now is my head movement. Kinda just sits there like a dart board waiting to get hit. Also my lead hook is really bad I never used it much because I felt it had to short range but I realized it is about as long as my jab and I have pretty long reach for my weight class so any tips on lead hook and head movement would be awesome. :feedme:

this guy is forcing you to punch up. he is screwing with your mechanics. for now bring the pads down to chest height.

slipping is when you force a punch to pass through the space next to your ear and over your shoulder. there are only two slipping motions and here they are.

the best way to work on slipping is to get a guy to throw punches at you.
