Let's speak on the struggles we're having while in search of employment - part-time BS job to get through school or career advancement options and anywhere in between. If you have any insight on the fields being posted about feel free to share, give advice, whatever.
I'm currently employed and have been passively seeking employment elsewhere since December 2011 - with much more of a focus since early 2013.
BA in Psychology in '09
6 years of work experience with the same group, where I have held 5 different titles.
My last 3 years have all been supervisory/managerial.
My last 2 (well, 18 months) have been HR focused, which is where I want to be - primarily in recruitment and employee relations management.
I should finally going back to school after taking a few years off in the Fall for my MBA in Industrial/Organizational Psych and getting certified - with my current level of experience in HR I would be eligible to take the PHR in June.
And for the better part of this time I have struck out on damn near every interview I've gone to. More notably, a recruitment group that proudly exclaimed that experience was not required - wined and dined me as well as several others in an "informal" meet and greet where I was praised by staff as well as management for my background, only to be told no one could say anything "constructive" about me" when I followed up; as well as a start-up department at NYU that actually gave me an "informal" yes before withdrawing due to going with an internal candidate several weeks later.
Some of my other interviews have been solely to get acclimated to the interview process and become more comfortable with the range of questions and interview types. On a few I've gotten a yes - but they were not jobs of interest, but opportunities to see different interview techniques for my own personal knowledge as well as comfort. After a year of consistent interviewing this shyt has become incredibly draining.
My salary has remained the same for 3 years regardless of how much my responsibilities have changed, work life has become increasingly more difficult to deal with. I'm currently the last person left in our HR department, which was comprised of about 5 or 6 people a few years ago - it was cut down to 3 last year, and now it's just me to manage a staff that ranges from 100-140 people at any given time of the year. As it stands I'm simply looking for more entry level HR that's geared toward recruitment as a means to get my foot in the door as I try to become a bit more set as an HR professional. I've pretty much had a crash course in HR in my current employment without formal training and I'd like to get into it from the ground up again for positions that require about a year or so of experience in HR. So far, I've been looking the most since early 2013 to no avail. When I read about HR in today's world the landscape seems to be changing when it comes to outsourcing and recruitment, particularly lower-level recruitment, seems to be a woman's game. When I head out to career fairs they are predominantly run by 20-something white women - 20-something black males? Not so much.
My emails are cluttered with shyt from Indeed, Monster, ZipRecruiter and all types of other shyt - Linkedin grind for most of the year as well. I've networked with other recruiters and gotten interviews, all for nothing.
shyt's tough out here.
