If there is a bunch of good information in here or posts people find valuable, I can link it to the original page. It would also be cool if people posted job openings that they're aware of if people list specific fields.

Anybody have phone interview tips? I've had a few recently for out of state positions and don't think they went very well. It's tough to get a feel when you aren't face to face.

A Cover letter can't hurt and isn't time consuming at all. You can get a Cover Letter template off moster.com. It's worked wonders for me and in my opinion even if it goes unread, it shows you really want the job. Also, I had an issue with jobs not responding to me on these job boards. It's best to go directly through the site of the job because these boards haven't done me any justice. If you see a job on the job board, just go on the site to apply. Also, resume faxing is good too instead of just going through the computer. I applied at this agency several times and got no reply. I faxed my resume and got a call back a few days later and actually was offered the position.

Those are a few of my pointers.

As for phone interviews i'd write a script and make sure I did as much research as possible about the company so they can gauge your interest being that they can't see you physically. You should do research anyways but some people don't know that,

Why dont you think they went well?

I've only done one phone interview before, the only advice or tip I can give you is your emotions do travel through the phone. If possible stand and pace while doing the interview, if you have a bluetooth thats great cause your hands are free to move naturally as they would in a sit down interview, like I said those different body movements help with voice inflection. Try to sound as enthusiastic as you can and leave some good questions for them at the end.

Ugggh. I haven't interviewed in years. I got 2nd round interviews coming up with a big four consulting firm. One is about my skill set by a person in the field I'm working in so that should be easy. The other interview is a behavioral based interview. Anyone got tips on acing the STAR based interview?
how did that go breh"?

I had three interviews with the fukkers. I thought the interviews went very well. But I haven't heard anything back in a month. Followed up with a call and email to the recruiter and still nothing.

Not sure that I would like to work for them now if this is how the treat people during the interview process.

Let's speak on the struggles we're having while in search of employment - part-time BS job to get through school or career advancement options and anywhere in between. If you have any insight on the fields being posted about feel free to share, give advice, whatever.

I'm currently employed and have been passively seeking employment elsewhere since December 2011 - with much more of a focus since early 2013.

BA in Psychology in '09
6 years of work experience with the same group, where I have held 5 different titles.
My last 3 years have all been supervisory/managerial.
My last 2 (well, 18 months) have been HR focused, which is where I want to be - primarily in recruitment and employee relations management.
I should finally going back to school after taking a few years off in the Fall for my MBA in Industrial/Organizational Psych and getting certified - with my current level of experience in HR I would be eligible to take the PHR in June.

And for the better part of this time I have struck out on damn near every interview I've gone to. More notably, a recruitment group that proudly exclaimed that experience was not required - wined and dined me as well as several others in an "informal" meet and greet where I was praised by staff as well as management for my background, only to be told no one could say anything "constructive" about me" when I followed up; as well as a start-up department at NYU that actually gave me an "informal" yes before withdrawing due to going with an internal candidate several weeks later.

Some of my other interviews have been solely to get acclimated to the interview process and become more comfortable with the range of questions and interview types. On a few I've gotten a yes - but they were not jobs of interest, but opportunities to see different interview techniques for my own personal knowledge as well as comfort. After a year of consistent interviewing this shyt has become incredibly draining.

My salary has remained the same for 3 years regardless of how much my responsibilities have changed, work life has become increasingly more difficult to deal with. I'm currently the last person left in our HR department, which was comprised of about 5 or 6 people a few years ago - it was cut down to 3 last year, and now it's just me to manage a staff that ranges from 100-140 people at any given time of the year. As it stands I'm simply looking for more entry level HR that's geared toward recruitment as a means to get my foot in the door as I try to become a bit more set as an HR professional. I've pretty much had a crash course in HR in my current employment without formal training and I'd like to get into it from the ground up again for positions that require about a year or so of experience in HR. So far, I've been looking the most since early 2013 to no avail. When I read about HR in today's world the landscape seems to be changing when it comes to outsourcing and recruitment, particularly lower-level recruitment, seems to be a woman's game. When I head out to career fairs they are predominantly run by 20-something white women - 20-something black males? Not so much.

My emails are cluttered with shyt from Indeed, Monster, ZipRecruiter and all types of other shyt - Linkedin grind for most of the year as well. I've networked with other recruiters and gotten interviews, all for nothing.

shyt's tough out here.

Appreciate you uppin this breh. I actually gave my director my two weeks notice 3 weeks ago after an incident at the office set me over the edge. Subsequently, she offered me a transfer to a different department, a 20% raise and an opportunity to head up a new Project in my own image. :obama:

It wasn't what I wanted or intended to have happen since I planned on quitting and picking up some BS job in the interim to pay the bills, but this new job and everything that came with it will let me pay off 2/3's of my debt, pay for my GRE to get into the grad school program I want and HR certification test all in one shot. Sometimes things work out for the best, and with these positives I'm in a better position to get into an HR position I really want while also building a nest and getting out of the check to check grind I've been in.

Do you guys get anything out of Linked In? It seems to me that there is absolutely nothing to gain except another way of getting someone's email address.
