On resume.. just put start and end dates. In interview have the bomb 3 liner about why you let it go... Center it around ur own career growth, not around nothing negative. If you can make it so your seeking something in an organization (that u sorta know that company has).

I just said something about .."I know that I don't have 15 years in the industry" "with my begining projects and job I would like to be in a position to .... blah blah.. " with blank job, my responsibilities were, which weren't inline with my ultimate career plan"..

whatever u say make it seem focused and not like a quitter.

how about a gap in between jobs, I know its viewed as a negative, say you last worked in january, now its june, or december 6months 12 months, sshould you sprinkle some like volunteer ish on there in between?

yeah, don't leave any gaps. ESpecially if your most recent experience is seeking job or unemployed. If that gap happens 10 or 5 years ago.. then it's no big deal.

But the most important things are ur most recent experience. If you can,, make it 'freelance' work.... better if you have someone to back u. for example, my manager is writing some shyt soon for my ex to pretend like she's be doing BA work w us.

Or you can pretend that you were training, updating ur skill while at the same time doing some volunteer work.. preferable some shyt outta state. Don't say some random food bank or shelter, or children's shyt in ur state, the person friends fiancee might be the director at that place. Put it in some far away place that you've actually been to before, and make up a reason y u did it.

A question brehs, not necessarily related to resume/cover letters, but job hunting nonetheless.

I have been on the job hunt, but some jobs ask for writing samples. Thing is I went to law school for a year, and basically everything from undergrad that I wrote is gone.

So how do I maneuver around this quandary? :patrice:

My career counselor recommended starting a blog, but the thing is I like to think that I'm not a c*nt :leostare:

Perhaps I'll start a blog to blog about writing samples, but I fear that might be a bit too meta :patrice:

Any advice welcome brehs :patrice:

On Tuesday I got a call to interview for a private Special Education school, the receptionist set up the interview and I will be interviewing this Tuesday with the director. She told me the director picked my resume. Would it be appropiate to email him a "thank you, see you Tuesday" type of a letter, or just let it be? I only sent him my resume, not a cover letter, if that means anything.

What's been your experiences with being hired/working for the federal government?

Expect a intense interview process, I just got one, had 4 interviews, whole process took almost two months

I want to use the STAR technique for an internship description on my resume, but don't know how to start, can anyone help?

I currently have: "Researched and input data into Excel. Contacted clients to schedule meetings and organized financial documents."

I want to make it sound better while implementing the STAR technique

I read that USAJOBS resume should be 3+ pages.
Now I'm scrambling to make to use the STAR technique on my resume.

Ugggh. I haven't interviewed in years. I got 2nd round interviews coming up with a big four consulting firm. One is about my skill set by a person in the field I'm working in so that should be easy. The other interview is a behavioral based interview. Anyone got tips on acing the STAR based interview?

im gonna be in grad school for a while so i use my resume primarily to get summer internships, for anyone in my field (computer science) if u aint make ur resume using latex u lost. this summer two potential employers commented on how nice my resume looked in my interviews (got offers from both places too :wow:). i used to rock one of those standard microsoft word resumes but u can do so much more in latex that it's definitely worth learning (it's useful for pretty much any sort of document, not just resumes), and anything that makes u stand out is always good. if anyone is interested i can link a template i used to learn the basics, it's kinda like programming ur resume and the best part is once u learn it u can put that u kno latex in ur resume :dead:
