These firms are playing games. How long does it take for you to decide if you want me back for another interview or review my app. :snoop:

Stop looking for somebody to hire your ass and make your own damn money, start a business or something

You dont wanna be that 30 year old nikka making 15 dollars an hour lol
Obsession with business ownership always comes out. Owning a business is great but that's not always the right path for someone. Vast majority of small business fail as well so would be tremendous risk as opposed to saving cash

^^Sad but true. For every successful business there's 1000's of unsuccessful ones.

I ended up using my sole proprietorship to keep my skills sharpened and make money on the side while looking for work. My 'side hustle' made me about 2500 dollars this year, better than 0.

Could be a worthwhile endeavor for some of y'all waiting for jobs to hire you, do something that involves your skills in the meantime and work that in the next interview or resume.

Find an in.

There is absolutely no way to distinguish yourself if you're applying via a typical job/application site.
You absolutely need to figure out a way to connect with someone at the firm or company you're interested.

Be sure to approach them correctly -- know the role you're interested in, their role, and be clear about your intentions.

If you're in the market for a typical job, you'd be remiss not to use LinkedIn to find a couple of folks inside of the company to have a chat with.

What industry are you applying to? For finance for example I don't think that format would be best so always try to look up how resumes in certain industries look

- State/Local Gov't
- Elected Officials on the Hill
- Non Profit
- Grad School

I think that format would be fine. I personally don't like it but that is only my opinion and not your potential hiring manger's

Few questions for the pros of this thread, if it's been answered previously I apologize, just read a few pages so far haha.

I have a question about the reference game?
How legit should we make it ? Should we always have a list on hand of folks who can vouch for our skills? Or should it be former employers? :patrice:
Also how much do employers care about volunteering? I always forget to put the events I've helped at.:martin:

:banderas: to the pros, thank you for the knowledge:obama: I luv ya

Having a Volunteer can help set you apart from others, esp if it's relevant work to what you're applying for. I'd keep it if I were you
References matter depending on the job. my main job now asked but didn't check my references but my side job asked specifically for 2 professional and 1 personal and checked all

Etsy has really good resume designs for cheap. I bought 2 on there.

Also apply for any job on zip recruiter and theyll sometimes give you the option of free resume critique. This is a bomb ass service and they're very honest and thorough. I did it twice, first time my resume scored 56% the second time 92%. I took their advice and landed 3 interviews. Started my new job Monday.
