The Chi (South Side)
I always compare this to the illusionist since they came out in the same year. however, the prestige really shyts all over the illusionist, but I saw the illusionist first cuz I'm a norton fan. I have seen the prestige numerous times now. its dope.

you just want to believe in the extroadinary :mjpls:

like ive seen the movie plenty, maybe you should watch it again

remember its a show about magic...something that isnt real

only simpletons think magic is real. Watch closely

what i find hilarious is that people are quick to accept the idea that Tesla produced a cloning machine yet cant believe they could have found doubles :skip: this is the 1800s

As I said before, you're like Angier when Cutter from the very JUMP knew how Borden's trick was done and kept on telling him how simple it was and you keep denying thinking it had to be more complex than that. Everything I said was directly shown ON SCENE. You making up shyt in your mind because you don't want to believe what is shown to you. To quote Cutter, "You aren't really looking. You just want to be FOOLED".

So let me get this straight... if this theory were correct it would mean:

Angiers killed his double.:manny:
He then got Borden framed and executed for the murder.:myman:
He then exploited the admittedly lax 18th century rules of evidence to get Root's body back.:whoo:

He then also obtained countless other corpses that looked liked him and placed them in a secret underground chamber.:aicmon:

He then waited for Borden (who he knows was executed:childplease:) to show up at said underground chamber and uses the scene to "convince" Borden that he was basically a hack magician who needed the equivalent of the "up up down down left right left right ba start" cheat to get over on him.:dahell::mindblown::wtf:

She knew for a while :leostare:
They were together for a years

She mentions it a couple of times with the whole not today lines

Nah she didn't know originally. She just assumed that on some days he was obessed with magic then on others he was focused on her. It was more and more over the years that she realized that they were two men. And even then, the twins themselves wasn't entirely sure she knew.

No, I think the "not today" lines were genuine. She finally realizes it around the time when they have their huge fight and she yells that "I know what you really are". She asks him point blank do you love me, and "Borden" is forced to say "not today, no" because of course it's the wrong Borden talking to her. At that particular moment "Fallon" was the one who loved Sarah. That's when she finally confirms it, and in the next scene(which I'm assuming is the next day) she kills herself.

Initally she had no clue but as Scar Jo's character became involved romantically with the other brother. She figured it out after they got married but long after. Eventually she got fed up with the lies and the secrets.

I think she discovers it later on thier relationship but not as late as near when she hung herself

Alfred Borden: Everything's going to be alright, because I love you very much.
Sarah: Say it again.
Alfred Borden: I love you.
Sarah: Not today.
Alfred Borden: What do you mean?
Sarah: Well some days it's not true. Maybe today you're more in love with magic. I like being able to tell the difference, it makes the days it is true mean something.

Another scene

Alfred Borden: I love you.
Sarah: You mean it today.
Alfred Borden: Of course.
Sarah: It just makes it so much harder when you don't.

reread what you said, "i dont want to believe what is shown to me"

the reality is all magic is is slight of hand and illusion, yet im the fool :laff:

Yeah...I think I do recall that he was telling someone the story when they show him shooting the double.

I always rolled with the theory of the machine working and Angier having to knowingly murder a double in the tank, but this new explanation is feasible as well. :lupe:

The other theory of him committing that and having the double get the glory is feasible too, but I think he was too ego-driven to let someone else get the prestige....and he had all those memories. Wouldn't have made enough sense.

No.. even she didnt know ... batman didnt wanna ruin his trick .... hell, he even cut off his own finger ...

The today line was genuine, she thought he was psycho who had mood swings and would love her one day and not the next... She hung herself because she couldnt take it anymore ..

Thats where it gets technical .... because technically it wasnt cloning ... he created a duplicate.

like this movie is goat because it separates the people who arent that smart and the ones that are, people back in the day used to believe in sorcerers and warlocks and witches

they accepted everything they saw and magicians made a killing

Nolan the god capturing the deep levels of magic :wow:

Read what I wrote carefully .... 1st, in the book the machine works but I'm not saying that....

If you read my post the machine working or not working doesnt matter .... I said they created duplicates not clones .... clones are the exact same and duplicates are just something that resembles the original ... Whether i believe the machine works or not is irrelevant ... my post was carefully worded to cover both sides of believe just like Nolan did with the ending..

If they are indeed homeless people dressed up as doubles , then they're duplicates ... If the machine works, they're clones but people would also call those duplicates ...

but the answer is right there just like when batman told catwoman he was using autopilot and people mishear that line ..
Cat: Are you gonna fly it out of here .. or whatever
Batman: no, autopilot ...

Indeed, it's the hardest part to wrap your head around in the whole movie because you really have to delve into the abstract notion of identity. The Angiers that was killed by Borden at the end of the movie wasn't biologically the Angiers at the start of the movie(indeed, there were a lot of Angiers between them), yet he was identical in every single way including mentally. So was he or was he not Angiers?

It's basically a sort of Ship of Theseus paradox applied to human beings.

A fascinating film, to be sure....
