what do you think happens during the transported man trick?

original man dies, copy appears on other side and lives?
copy dies, the original is transported to the other side?
neither man is a copy and are really the same but one dies?

Fog is clearing up for me. I mean, at least to me, it's easy to see that that's a different Wolverine. I mean the one that is copied is still alive and drowning at moment when the other appears, right? If Batman was able to break that glass in time, there'd be two Wolverines running around. Same memories and everything, but still two separate existences. I don't really see anything supporting anything else.

It basically depends on how the machine actually works, which could be 3 ways

1) The machine is a duplicator

Because this means the machine just makes an exact copy of Angier. If you believe that to be the case, than the original died a long time ago.

2) The machine teleports Angier, leaves a copy behind

I hate to bring up the book, but the machine actually teleports Angier. One side effect is that it leaves a copy behind

3) The machine actualizes both outcomes

Basically when you step into the machine, your in both a "teleported" and "non teleported" state, which results in 2 Angiers. This is what a lot of people, including myself, believe. As a result, there is no original. The movie seemed to be going in this direction.

Okay, never saw it like this. Do you guys really think Logan would kill himself over and over again if he knows the outcome of it? I mean...it'd be better for him if he just transported himself and didn't die, right?

exactly, thats what i believed

plus the main theme of the movie is "Self Sacrifice", right? The transporting man trick is just a bigger version of the bird trick they show several times in the movie to me

the og bird dies, then they reveal the second bird everytime. In the movie, the little boy figured out the truth and cried asking Batman "where is his brother" when he realized the first bird dies in the trick.

I believe the original angier dies in the trick, drowning below the stage, and the copy appears to live on until the next trick. The original angier never got to do the prestige for any invisible man tricks. Each copy only got to do the prestige of the trick once before dying the next time they did the trick :whew:

On one hand, this thread just reminded me why this is one of my favorite movies of all time... :lawd:

...on the other hand, I'm now completely lost. I've seen it twice and thought I had it figured it out but now I'm second-guessing myself. :notsure:

c/s

thread made me :whoo:

about to watch it again and make sure I'm watching closer than the tagline suggests

The real question to me is ...
Does the machine teleport and leave a copy behind or
Does the machine teleport a copy leaving the original behind.

Thats what make Nolan's films good ... we can debate years later

:dead: ... :deadmanny: @ calling them wolverine, batman and alfred

Out here in my damn drawls
I remember seeing Memento when I was like 11 or 12 and was like, "This is the most confusing sh!t ever" then I saw this when I was 15 and sat there like :wow:

When I found out Nolan did both of those damn movies I was like :ohhh:. They are great films and they force you to watch them, or end up mindf*cked wondering where you went wrong in the movie

The Prestige is in my top 5, easy

One of the GOAT movies of all time from nolan the gawd :blessed:

It's crazy how this movie is being slept on by a lot of people :what:

When it comes to the ending I think the machine teleports the original and leaves a copy behind like dude said Tesla made a teleporter not a copy machine :dead:

nd Batman said it himself with his copy they are both the exact same guy that's why his trusts himself so much

Actually Tesla was asked to make a teleporter machine ...who knows what he actually made. Most of lifes greatest inventions are because people were trying to invent something else.

I need to watch this again.
