I'm starting to get hyped about this now!
Can somebody confirm that you get a play and charge kit with every console so if I buy a new controller buying an extra one is only optional as i've seen some conflicting information on other forums...

No you don't get a play and charge kit. You can however use a micro USB cable to use the controller without batteries
