The black population in toronto is nearly 10 percent, but how many of us are working in places where you might be the only black person in the company or one of few.

I remember my guidance counsellor in hs telling me I'd never amount to anything and putting me in some alternative class
Man I remember going to a “good school” and being one of less than 10 Black/biracial kids in a school of many hundreds. It’s sad that we have to choose between what is perceived as a good education versus psychological safety.Yup

It's because most people don't have black friends. You can't hear what you can't see. Also, Canadians tend to whitewash it. I admit to being younger then you guys, so I haven't gotten it full bore, but I've seen other black people being mistreated. By everyone, not just authority figures.

White people have so many connections for all of these Bay Street jobs, they’ll get hired after a quick 15 minute coffee chat for a high level position (Director and up) whereas a qualified black candidate will have to do 3-4 rounds of interviews for that same position.
We really have to take the method that @Guess Who did and even then it’s a slow change

She passed, and the fam tried to fight it in courts but lost.

I was sitting in a bar in with my girl and overheard 2 white dudes talking. One goes to the other. "Do you think there is racism in Canada? I asked my Indian friend and he said no".
I damn near spit my beer out laughing. This was some time ago and these fools had a survey of one person. That was their extent of understanding.
When I'm doing renovations I sometimes work with a white dude who is a trump supporter.. because his boss likes to contract me in with their company and he's the main guy. From the very first job we worked on together white dude got educated to racism in Canada... We were doing a shed build on a home and a neighbor approached me to ask a bunch of questions, shyt got tense I told him to fukk off... Basically people act different when I'm there vs when he's alone. He admitted to it himself. This type of thing happens often when you're around. Now he says it himself. "This never happens unless I'm with you".
Black in public. You are suspicious. Dealing with daily micro aggression from the minute you start your day and get outside. It could be the way they don't greet you when you grab your timbs breakfast or the way a crowded subway car steers clear of the seat next to you. And so it goes all day until you get home. Rinse, recycle, repeat. When I go on hiking trails and run into people there especially women their first reaction is to freeze then look back. Same things happens on a quiet street. It's constant and draining. It's the same people pulling all these micro aggressions that pretend they didn't know racism was here.

yup people don't get the little things, I travel a lot, always have to google is it safe for black people to visit insert city, or i'll youtube black man in insert city. Then I have to check the airbnb if other blacks have stayed there before. Just little things like that people never have to worry about. A white person can go to rosedale or forest hill right now and walk around and nothing will happen, if I do I guarantee a cop will pull up just making sure I'm not lost
