A man and a woman injured in a brazen daytime shooting in Ajax earlier in the week have been charged with numerous firearms offences.

Durham police were called to the area of Harwood Avenue and Kingston Road just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday night following reports of shots being fired. When they arrived, they discovered a 26-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman in a while Hyundai Elantra suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to a trauma centre in Toronto in serious but non-life threatening condition.

Police say the intersection was riddled with more than 40 shots fired between at least two vehicles. Investigators believe an altercation between two groups sparked the shooting, which they say was not a random act.

On Friday, police attempted to arrest the 26-year-old man at a Toronto hospital, however, they say he assaulted an officer and fled the scene. During the pursuit, the suspect ran into a nearby residence to try and evade police but was ultimately arrested with the help of Toronto police.

Rashawn Samuels of Ajax is facing several charges including possession of a restricted firearm, discharging a firearm with intent, driving a vehicle with a firearm and assault with intent to resist arrest.

A 24-year-old woman, Sareena Ambursley Johnson of Scarborough is also facing firearms related charges.

Durham police continue to look for a second vehicle involved in the shooting which fled the scene. It is described as a black, four-door sedan but no other details have been released.

No worries. They'll be back on the street, free to do what they want by next week like nothing happened. As usual in Canada.
