this movie made its money, but it really feels like the quickest MCU movie to leave the zeitgeist. feels like it had buzz, positive or negative, for like 3 days.
I'm diehard MCU. I've enjoyed most of their movies, and will continue to support until there is a sustained dip in quality. However, I wish that people that enjoyed this movie got that this was not well received overall, and that regardless of
your enjoyment of it, Marvel really needs to focus on quality control or risk a fall from its place as the most successful film franchise.
They just let Taika do anything he wanted, and while I did enjoy Ragnarok as a film (not so much as a Thor film), this was as huge step down and magnified all the problems with Ragnarok without the positives in most places.
Thor had a great arc from Infinity War to Endgame. Then they go right back into making him shallow and an idiot for the sake of "laughs". Bale, who no one expected to do a Marvel movie, was wasted despite being the best part of the movie. The Gorr story in general was wasted from its potential. Portman all of a sudden became a completely different character, transforming into a quip machine. Korg was a prime example of Taika's indulgence inserting himself prominently in the movie, when that time could have been spent on more interesting things. Guardians sequence was flat, and mostly every serious moment was undercut by non funny moments. I could go on and on about the flaws in this film. Just a real disappointment.
It's wack because Thor is one of my favorite characters and if they kept him they way he was in Infinity War tone wise, there was so much potential here squandered. He had become one of the most popular characters after the tri-fecta of Ragnarok, Infinity War and Endgame so the box office for this really shows how much Taika dropped the ball because this could have easily done a billion if it were taken more seriously. It's like he was more concerned with threesomes with Rita Ora and Tessa then making a good movie. Feige really needs to reassess, and I'm one who constantly defends the MCU but I also call it how I see it because I
want Marvel to continue on at at a high level far into the future.
