yeah I get that but from a tv standpoint why open that door and make out this character has the brilliance to go out on his own only to basically reduce him to a obedient sidekick. It was just strange, there was never a moment where he strongly challenged thack or overruled him since being accepted. And the former wasn't even of sound judgement due to the drug withdrawal
from a tv standpoint??

breh you realize what time period this was?? raising your voice to a white man would most likely get you hung with zero arrests to follow.... and you think he'd be OVER some white people... nah

You are talking in real life in real life he doesn't punch that blonde doctor on the show he does its called taking liberties. There was a scene where someone mentions Thackery's skill and algamanon says "he's good but I think I am better" they could have easily gone the frenemy professional rival route instead he was relegated to a stooge. Suddenly thack couldn't be questioned on any decision cuz no one was smart or as good as him it was lame

Because that how it was for Black doctors in those days, and honestly he's far more rebellious than his counterparts. Also for as smart as he is, he is a subordinate of Thackery and he can't publically challenge him the way he probably should had it been a more equitable relationship.
even if he couldn't publically challenge thack he still got his wings clipped in other ways like was that hospital he was running from the basement still in operation by season end? Not that I remember.

True, but dude was putting in work regardless and that's why he's such a great character. He's the type of cat that would stitch you up in the back alley if you had no place to go, and I think that's why he takes the abuse at the Knick, he believes he's working towards a greater good, and navigating the strict racial lines of the era. :salute: this man.

You're exactly right. He was offered bigger jobs in England and shyt. He said he turned them down. He wanted to break that barrier IN AMERICA.

So you got to play along first. Tap dance so they let you in. Then take over

By the end of the season he gained thacks respect, got his invention pushed with his name second (said they wouldn't even look at it before cause he was black), got 2nd in command at the hospital and is probably running the joint with thack gone

Again. This is a black man in the beginning of the century. All that rah rah shyt wasn't happening. nikka had to hide in a cart to not get lynched and killed during the same season and nikkas want him to be a black panther and shyt

Steven Soderbergh's turn-of-the-20th-century drama, The Knick, injected more style into the medical-show genre than it's ever seen — so much so that Matt Zoller Seitz called it "the greatest sustained display of directorial virtuosity in the history of American TV." Season two, needless to say, has a lot to live up to.

The following teaser — officially announcing the show's return on October 16 — is all aesthetics, featuring the show's hallmark, soft-yet-unsettling camera work. But the promo hints at plot as well. One frame shows a group of men dawdling behind a barbed-wire fence with a "Quarantine" sign hanging on it. Look closely, and you'll see it was issued by the San Francisco Department of Health, signaling a locale shift at some point this season for the New York-set drama (in the season one finale, we left Cornelia unhappily marrying a man who informs her they'll be moving to San Francisco). A casting notice for The Knick back in March called for: "Non-Union Asian Men to portray Chinese Pedestrians! Ages 18-99. The scene takes place in a quarantine camp in San Francisco Chinatown in 1901." The casting call made a special note: "Especially seeking men with long hair!"

All the long-haired men will be revealed, this October 16 on Cinemax.
