I dont really known how to judge football cards but off rop, for those prices you could just ouright buy high graded cards you want
Ans, @Regular_P , would you say this is a fair price if I wanted to buy two or three packs?

I'm about to pull the trigger one one of these cases. I'm going to finance it with Paypal.
And, feel free to talk me out of this if you believe it is a dumb decision "value" wise. I will say that thankfully, I am in a position right now to be able to purchase one of these cases. I do not need to see an instant return. I guess I plan on starting to collect and will hold onto these for a while unless there are any that would make me a lot right away.
If you had to go with one of these, which would it be? And, please tell me if you think these cases are way over-priced, and if so, what you think they should be around. Appreciate the feedback!

And, is there maybe another year I should be looking at? These two above look like a lot more than some others I've seen. Is there that much of a difference year to year?
Or, if you see any here under $12,000, let me know!

I guess my thinking is that I could do that, and from my understanding, this market is very high right now for prices. I guess I would plan on holding most cards, and I guess I'd hope for a couple really nice ones in the packs. I would plan on holding for quite a while, and see what happens.
Outside of Luka and Zion, what are the biggest cards people want for the NBA right now?
I would never recommend packs at current prices unless you find retail at Walmart/Target. Just insanely low odds of getting any return on your money.
The year for football all comes down to which players you believe in. If you buy 2018, you think Josh Allen, Lamar or Baker is gonna be an all-timer. If it's 2019, you have that belief about Kyler; 2020 it's Herbert, Burrow or Tua. Think about the player you have the most conviction in and zero in on that year for wax you want to hold.
One thing to REALLY keep in mind is expectation level and declining interest. Prices are always high for young guys who get off to hot starts but then when they don't win big after a few years, their market cools. So Brady is obviously the gold standard. That's the benchmark everyone else is going to be chasing, which is basically impossible. Now think about guys like Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson. Both of them won Super Bowls early (like Mahomes just did...) but they haven't won anything since.
Both those guys are all-timers and this is the most recent auction of a box of 2012 Topps Chrome (Wilson's rookie year): 2012 Topps Chrome Football Hobby Box | eBay
and 2005 Topps Chrome: 2005 topps chrome football hobby box | eBay
Now it'd be tough to find cases for cards that old but to me, those are a much better value. If either guy wins another ring or two, those prices are gonna go up quite a bit.
I'm with @GunRanger that I'd stick with singles at that price range of sure things.
You can still get some PSA 9 Brady RCs for under 10 grand.
NBA can be really wild with price swings happening because of a hot week.
Besides Luka and Zion, the Holy Trinity of MJ, Kobe and LeBron is always on fire. You can never go wrong with those three. LaMelo's cards have been going for nutty prices though his injury could dampen his cards a little. Curry and Giannis are both really high but also undervalued compared to Luka.
But NBA value runs deeper than just the upper echelon stars. Everyone from LeBron to De'Aaron Fox will have somebody collecting them.
@BucciMane if you’re really trying to invest that heavily i would strongly recommend taking your time, im not here to pocket watch but you’re probably much more likely to make a decision you’ll be satisfied with a week, even a month from now, rather than an hour from now
either way, godspeed and welcome to the hobby
It's a new avenue for gambling and become the de facto stock market for athletes. Like @Codeine Bryant the big dogs will always command money. If there's a correction, it'll be the regular guys like Herro, Sekou, every baseball prospect hitting .350 in the minors, etc. that will come back to earth.
Injuries are always a concern with young players but an entire generation is not tearing their Achilles. The vast majority are making it through in tact.
know a guy who doin very well with hockey .... it's just interesting because u can get some players on the low and then Canadians or Russians etc. will wanna buy them up.
I want to get an Ovechkin one badly. Put aside any Boston athletes, he is my favorite athlete. I would say the great Jagr is right behind him for me.
Thanks for the feedback. I still kind of want to buy a case one time just to keep a bunch, but I understand what you are saying.
Let me ask you this. How overpriced do you think those cases are? Are we talking 20%, 100%, 200%? If they are slightly overpriced, I might not mind pulling the trigger.
And, I will definitely be looking for Brady, Mahomes, Lamar, Rodgers, and Cam (after he wins MVP this year) cards.
And, looking at Target, Walmart, etc, they almost never have anything.
I don't mind any feedback, whether it is telling me do go one route or another. I guess the reason I'm asking about cases, is I want to just get a bunch of cards to start and hold those. Then start buying individual ones, but I understand that those cases may be overpriced. I'm just not familiar with how overpriced they may be?
