Saw in the news that a Wayne Gretzky rookie card went for $1.3m
Honestly, that's probably low considering a Giannis went for $1.8 million recently. That Gretzky is an impossible grade and he's the hockey GOAT.Saw in the news that a Wayne Gretzky rookie card went for $1.3m
@BucciMane this Mahomes card sold for $10K in January and just went for $192K after the buyer's premium this week:
2016 Panini Select '17 NFL Draft XRC Patrick Mahomes II Gold Prizm | Lot #58642 | Heritage Auctions
This rise in prices is unreal. Nobody saw this coming. If you woulda bought a buncha Mahomes RCs when you were talking about it, you woulda made 10x your money right now.Seriously?.
Personally, I just have my cards in a fire/waterproof safe.any good storage boxes that fit slabs, one-touch, & sleeves you guys would recommend?
All depends on what/who you're buying. Prices are here to stay, imo. There's too much money in it now, especially by investment groups gobbling up the high end market. It's a legit investment route now.Would this likely be a poor time to start buying? Are the prices that high that they are bound to crash?
What about something like a Cmac rookie card? Worth it right now, or no?
Not yet. I don't think this is the peak of Lukamania. Prices are indeed nutty, and I don't see it calming down anytime soon.@Codeine Bryant are you cashing in on any of your Lukas? These prices are getting nutty before the season.

There was another Color Blast auction of his that went higher than my LeBron. That just blows my mind.

The high population stuff...I'm still not sold on. I'll never be comfortable spending money like that on a Luka base. Just way too many of them out there. Of course, I didn't think they could get this high with a population like that. The Trout Update looks like a low pop card compared to Luka's Prizm. I don't know what to make of it but I'm still wary.I’ve been hearing about and seeing this.
What do you make of it? You truly believe it’s here to stay? I’d like to hope so, obviously, seeing as how people like you and I are already invested. I do have legit concerns about this being a wildly unsustainable bubble.
Base prizm for Luka is approaching $2k again. BASE. That’s.... absurd. The print runs on these cards are monstrous. There’s a plethora of sets. Seems like there’s a dozen types of RPAs for every rookie the past several years, with multiple parallels to boot. Granted, only a few are true on card RPAs.
Truly feels like another junk wax era. Panini has absolutely flooded the market. With everything. Yet the supply still seems to fall short of the rabid demand, which is somewhat reassuring.
Idk breh. Guys like MJ, Bron, Kobe are definitely safe and sound investments. Even Curry and Durant and basically pre 2017ish RCs are reasonably printed and valued. But these past few years... sets on sets on sets, breh. The market saturation with Luka and Zion seems very real and medium key concerning for a Luka PCer such as myself.
And I 10000% agree. The place to put your money, finances permitting of course, is the high end market. Anything rare, SP, SSP, case hit, team color, numbered is the wave. I own a bit of Luka base and I don’t have the greatest medium-long term feeling about it.

Christian McCaffrey? I would strongly advise against putting big money in RBs. Adrian Peterson's the best RB since Barry retired and his RCs aren't super expensive. There just isn't a lot of upside in NFL players outside of QBs.
Basketball's the safest to put money in because it has a global market and it's not just the top players who can have explosive prices. Baseball is REALLY prospect focused so it's the biggest crapshoot.
