Used to dabble in hockey but haven't bought anything in a while. If you just want to collect guys, it's so much easier than the other three sports because it's so rookie focused. Once you go beyond first year cards, prices are incredibly reasonable.
For example, High Gloss parallels in the base Upper Deck are viewed kinda like Gold Prizms for basketball/football. Here's a PSA 9 2018-19 McDavid High Gloss that sold for $500:

I remember opinion being pretty divided on it. Rookie refractors will always be desired so I would stick with those over the Project cards.
Probably a toss-up on the patch cards; dunno what kinda edge the PSAs would have over BGS considering the numbering.If you're to rank these in terms of value, how would you rank them?

@Regular_P I’m looking at some Ohtani cards and wondering your opinion on the best high end ones to get if I wanted to invest long term rather than just the lower end rookies
I'd always recommend Bowman Chrome rookie autos for baseball. Ohtani's are 2018 Bowman Chrome and he has two different versions: a pitching one and a batting one. I think the batting ones are a little more desired but there's not a major difference price-wise.

I aint got money like that so my buying habits are not the stuff you usually see on social media.
First thing is that I avoid collecting stereotypes because those type of prospects are overpriced and rarely live up to the hype.
Every white QB rookie is priced like they are next Tom Brady, every black WR is priced as if they are the next Jerry Rice.
I look at guys like Cooper Cupp who have impressive achievements (triple crown season, Superbowl MVP) and aren't overhyped due to not fitting the stereotype by position a much better buy if you are trying to hold long term (5+ years).
I get buying a guy like Chase if you like him for the PC or you are trying to flip him, but I think its way too early to think of him as someone whos cards are a store of value.
Buying wise, I try to buy rookie field levels that are silver or scarcer (No huddle/fastbreak doesnt count).
I also look at 2nd or 3rd year case hits like Kaboom, Downtown, etc if I can get them at a good price.
No idea. Seems down from what I've seen, but I'm really only holding a few cards right now. I don't really want to move my Mahomes card, as I got a LOT less for my other one than I thought I would back in January.
And, for my Lamar cards, I doubt his current situation helps much. I have them listed for fixed marketplace on PWCC, but the offers I've received over the past month or two are not offers I'd accept. I would be fine taking less than I paid for them at the time, but the offers are significantly less, as in 70% less than what I paid for them.

If you know your hockey, consider getting into it. A lot of buyers (and sellers) don't really know what they are doing when it comes to hockey prospects.
