How valuable are Kaboom cards? And, are they worth it even without an auto?


I was looking at some of these.

Kabooms are popular and fairly valuable, though moreso in basketball than in football (inserts are more popular with the basketball crowd but could be a sleeping giant for down the road with football). They make them every year so in my personal opinion, the ones to get are rookie ones or when a player changes teams. They all have value though.

If you guys find any rookie QB cards that you think are pretty good value, definitely let me know. I have about $10,000-20,000 I'd be willing to spend over the next few weeks or months on cards. I guess I'm looking for rookie on card autos, and mostly QB's. I think I'd rather pay for a premium/high end card than a bunch of "decent" ones. I've been comparing cards that were purchased over the past few years (mainly past few months) to some that I've seen on Ebay. Obviously a lot of them are overpriced, as I've seen some Lamar Jackson cards that went for $4,500 a few months ago showing up as an asking price of $7,500 now.

If you see any you think are good deals, or even "within reason", I'd be interested.


This is one I'm looking at. I'd be willing to make an offer.

Always check the monthly PWCC and Goldin auctions. Most high end auctions go through them. Lotta people are gonna be holding until the preseason starts for football. I'll let you know if I see anything though.

I'm pretty sure the answer is "yes" to this question, but are the three following cards all the same version?

1. With the link below, the ones I am talking about was are the ones sold on April 14th 2020 and April 30th 2021. I know one is a PSA 9, but they are the same exact version?

All the same but that 10 is massively overpriced. Die-Cut parallels generally aren't highly sought after, especially if it isn't the gold version.

And, I figured as much with the Brady card. I pretty much knew they were the same, but wanted to confirm as the price differences are absurd.

2020 Donruss Optic Justin Herbert Blue Prizm Rookie Auto /75 RC PSA 9/10


I bought one on ebay last night and offered a lower amount than the person was asking for, but am not sure if I got skinned alive. I feel like from what I researched, I got a decent deal on it from ones I've seen sold recently.

2020 Donruss Optic Justin Herbert Blue Prizm Rookie Auto /75 RC PSA 9/10


I bought one on ebay last night and offered a lower amount than the person was asking for, but am not sure if I got skinned alive. I feel like from what I researched, I got a decent deal on it from ones I've seen sold recently.

That guy bought it for $1,925 at a Probstein auction on April 27th.

The shiny spot is just light reflection off the surface; happens more on Prizm/Refractor parallels. That's the same card though.

I'd pass on the Lamar Jackson gloves auto; the Impeccable is nice but I don't know what the long term outlook is for them. National Treasures is the clear top dog, Flawless and Immaculate were the successors.

Pass on that Kyler; it isn't the true rookie/RPA. Always look for the RC logo first.

So, the $4,000 number is just what the sellers "Buy it now" offer was? I'm assuming that's what's showing there? And, if it's an auction, then it would show the best offer for auction?

Auction would show whatever the final price is for the auction. $2,300 isn't too bad. It's offseason and prices will start ticking up as preseason hype rolls around. That seller didn't even make anything after eBay fees.

Thanks for the clarification. I knew I was either off on something or that getting the card for $2,300 was too good to be true when I saw $4,000 for the same card. But, now I get that the $4,000 was the buy it now price. Makes a lot more sense. That is the main reason I kept asking if it's the same card I was looking at. I was seeing the BIN prices and the auction prices, and not realizing the auction prices are the final sale price, and the fixed price ones are the BIN.

Dunno but I'd pass regardless. It's an in-person auto and the card doesn't have a grade, just the auto.

I figured something was up as the grade didn't look like some others I'd seen. Damn, it's easy to get smoked with these cards if you don't ask questions..


And, if you see any Mahomes, Murray, Jackson, and Herbert (other rookie QB's too) where you think some cards have a decent value, definitely let me know. I'm expanding my budget for cards right now. If a card is listed at say, $6,000, and you think $4,500 is a fair offer, I'd listen and make an offer. I'm willing to spend some over the coming months.
