Welcome aboard:
Black Socialists of America
BSA - Resource Guide
https://s3.jacobinmag.com/issues/jacobin-abcs.pdf

The doctrine is less important than the methods and End-goal. Democratic/egalitarian control of all resources, the end of the exploitative division of labor, and a socio-political/environmental system that reflects all of this.
:salute:

Yeah I been watching Richard Wolfe and David Harvey for the past few months. Stumbled onto BSA's twitter account too.

I think the clear set of ideas and political theory compared to "progressiveness" drew me in. Arguing with progressives about stuff like housing and realizing that they didn't have any real goals outside of "more housing please :feedme:" made me :hhh:.
I'm a rookie just trying to soak up game from the vets :wow:

I think I shared this in the Bernie thread because a lot of the attacks Shapiro uses are still prevalent and she gives clear and solid rebuttals to it all. Debunking misconceptions can be challenging because they've been meme'd to death and there haven't been enough counters to the bad faith arguments and points.

Huey Newton, Ella Baker, and W.E.B. DuBois all have some fantastic talks and writings on it:

I'm more of a social democrat. I can't wrap my head around true democratic socialism. Probably because the details of how it would actually work has never been clear to me. :francis:

I do dream of the day we get a Star Trek type society though. :banderas:

I'm more social democrat myself, I think establishing socialism would be a long term project that requires changing how people fundamentally view the way the world works. Basically you have to remove a lot of deeply ingrained beliefs about socialism, capitalism and property. I think you'd start with social democratic policy that makes smaller formations to establish themselves and then see if it expands. So I lean toward social democratic solutions short term and then I want to see the impact they have while considering a broader move toward socialism...also I just need to do more reading and research about socialism. But either way, the theory of commodification is money and frames damn near every view I have at this point.

Yeah this is a point that Zizek always brings up. Universal healthcare is not "the end". As Americans, we're so stuck in the fight over trivial shyt that's killing us that we aren't capable of envisioning what a true non capitalist society looks like.

With that being said I feel like when we get to that point when our vision is the baseline of society we should be willing to step aside for the younger generation who are able to carry us past that mental block because they didn't have to deal with the struggles we did.

Doesn't some philosopher have a theory that relates to this concept of being able to see past the horizon.
