Picked up a new Marantz AV7706 pre-pro at a crazy discount, along with a 2ch Marantz MM7025 amp. 1st pre-pro and I wasn't initially crazy about Marantz port-hole design, it has grown on me, very clean look. Glad they included a larger display behind the drop down panel as the port hole doesn't show much info other than source and volume.
My only gripe is for a $3,200 pre-pro the learning remote can't operate a current Sony 4K Blu-ray player or Nvidia Shield! WTF! Been out of the universal remote game awhile, landed on a Sofabaton U2. Game changer so far. Connects to your phone for setup using their app, has codes for over 50K devices. Mini OLED screen at the top of the remote with scroll wheel. Basically go in the app, tell it how your device is controlled, IR or BT, select brand and model, test with buttons on the app, pick an icon, add it to your device list, it shows up on the remote screen. You can remap buttons and learn commands from other device remotes. Remote is backlit and detects movement, will light up when you pick it up.
I still need the 7ch Marantz MM8077 amp to complete this setup, was a little more than what I wanted to spend right now. So to get back to a 7.2.4 setup, I bought a 2ch 7025 for rear surrounds, used the 5ch 7055 for front stage and side surrounds, and 2 Fosi 2ch amps for front and rear top heights. All XLR cables out back for the main 7 speakers and 2 subs, RCA out to the 2 Fosi amps. XLR has quite a bit more db's than rca cables I found out, had to turn the subs down quite a bit during room correction.
Sound quality compared to my Onkyo 3030 is huge improvement, and now don't have to worry about the amp heat killing the HDMI board.
