i usually just post iphone photos on there. Congrats on the job, i started out doing freelance for nylon so i learned alot. I see alot of elitist in here worried about specs, it doesnt matter what camera you have all that matter is that you know how to compose a picture and have an eye for photography...i still take pics on a 9 year old 6mp camera most the time. Example:

I use this plugin for colored options http://www.niksoftware.com/colorefexpro/usa/index.php

And I use this for my black and whites http://www.niksoftware.com/silverefexpro/usa/entry.php

Of course before i Use the filters I change the white balance and hit the auto button on tone.
If i like what i see on tone i go to clarity and vibrance.
Then I sharper the picture as much as I can without looking too weird.
Add filters and upload

all of those are taken with an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EOS_10D

my advice would be to master the camera you have, no sense upgrading if you don't know how to compose a picture. Besides everyone has these high end cameras and don't know how use them properly.

Did you guys feel like this at the start? How'd you guys gain enough confidence to post your pics up for criticism? How'd guys start? Any books you recommend reading?

Just start shooting my nikka....I shot my first pics last week and Im just fukking around in lightroom.

Just shoot what u think looks good and have fun wit it.

I had the same concerns when I first started man.
I was walking around my campus looking for stuff to take photos of and everything.
I even went and asked the head of the photography dept how do I "GAIN" a photographers "EYE".

Soon as that bytch told me I should take a class to push myself
I knew I needed to get out there on my own or other wise I just wasted alot of money for a shiny camera.

I had 2 female friends that knew how to model and they really kicked things off for me. Havent looked back since and bring my camera almost everywhere

Yeah just get out there man and do you. Learn the iso settings. Learn the shutter speeds and learn the aperture settings. Yeah people will look at you and ask you questions but eventually you'll get better. I know I did quickly cause I had the motivation from people telling me I wasn't going to be better than this other photographer on campus shooting all the Frat Parties. Next thing I know their hiring me to shoot their frat parties and shyt.
