I've used my camera more in the past month than in the prior year. Quarantine has me walking around the neighborhood with my camera to get out of the house. I still don't have the courage to shoot people up close, so when my shots do involve people, I am usually using my 55-210mm telephoto lens zoomed in a bit. Slowly but surely getting better.

Hey total newb, what would be a good DSLR for a rookie and best photo editing? dap and rep
Not a vet, but the advice I've heard is to buy used up front for the low and then you can increase your spending if you really get a feel for things and want to take things further. I would use Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp and then cross-reference the model on Amazon to make sure it is well-liked (4.5 stars minimum) and popular (+1,000 ratings). That way, if you like it, you can buy additional parts easily, and if you don't like it, you can still flip it and get most of your $$$ back.

In terms of photo editing, I have GIMP on my PC since it's free but that is more because it is open source than because I've been actually using it, so I can't offer you any advice there.

Thanks I appreciate this, I was waiting for Black Friday to buy from Best Buy, but I like your advice better

Black Friday is the one time a year you can get new cameras for used prices, so that is still a valid option as well as long as you don't end up buying a $1500 camera @ 30% off instead of just a discounted, sub $500 entry level camera.

I would go to slickdeals.net and set a deal alert to email me if any new threads are created that mention 'DSLR' or 'camera' as well. That's how I got a gimbal for the low a few weeks ago.

dont buy a dslr, buy a mirrorless camera, for future proofing. i usually tell folk to see how a camera feels in theeir hands before buying, but dunno if you can do that.

as far as software, snapseed is pretty fukkin good for a free phone/tablet editing app. affinty photo is pretty dope on the computer or tablet. Lightroom if you dont mind paying $10 a month

DSLR is old tech. has a mirror in it, flaps up when u take a picture. mirrorless has no mirror. new tech. all the companies are transitioning to mirrorless, some only make mirrorless. A mirrorless is typically smaller and has more auto focus options than dslr. neither is really "better" per se, but its the newer shyt
