Do any of you use a wide angle lens? I see Nikon released one for $300 and the reviews are for it are pretty good. Thinking about getting one to take on my upcoming trip.

Also, I have a 50mm lens, so would it be a waste of money at this point to get a 35mm lens as well?

I use a Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM, love it. I have a 50mm, I'd still get a 35mm prime as they can be quite good on colors and tact sharpness.

yes, it would be a waste of money to get the 35 if you've already got a 50mm. Well unless you really want it cuz I know about about to cop this cheap little sigma 30mm 1.4 just to have a bit a change up to 50mm stuff. But yeah, if you can afford it go ahead, but otherwise it's kind of a similar range to the 50. If you're gonna get a wide angle then you could prolly cop that new 10-20. only draw back is it starts at f4.5, but for $310 that's not back for a superwide brand new.

i agree i have a 50mm and a 35mm, 35mm just saves you from stepping back a few steps, a 50mm is so much cheaper and sharper imo

So I copped the wide angle lens and a tamron 70-300 for like $125 so I can get rid of my kit 55-200. With those 2 and the 50mm I'm good on lenses until I get considerably better at shooting to justify a more expensive camera and lenses.

damn i suck at portraits

any tips?
practice practice practice. watch youtube vids. read articles. Emulate other photogs because there's nothing that's really new in photography. Learn to edit...all my portraits are just edited in Lightroom. Watch other people edit in Lightroom and PS on youtube. Learn how different lens focal lengths affect photos. But most of all practice and learn to edit. Also, don't sleep on framing and composition.
