I shoot at 800 at night period. nothing lower nothing higher.
I use a diffuser on my speedlite so it doesn't blind people. most of those indoor shots I also used a slow shutter speed around 1/8 with a f/4.5. everything else I use a speed of 1/80 with an f/2.8
sent from my phone nikka....

Your camera doesnt pick up any hand movements/shakes at that slow shutter speed?

I know I used to think the same thing and wouldn't go over f/2.8 at night and wouldn't go below 1/30secs.
Nope I talked to this professional photographer that started shooting in nightclubs and he showed me different. Even though he was shooting with a D700(FX) he showed me that as long as I keep my subjects still to a certain extent I'd be able to get the shot I was looking for.

He said there was no reason to have my f-stop at 2.8 or below because I didn't need that type of depth of field in a nightclub setting.

Just keep your hands steady and you should be straight.

Do you have a speedlite though?

But... in technical terms I found this:
The flash therefore freezes any camera shake, since the available light falling on my subject(s) is so low. You just wouldn’t see camera shake. Since the flash is pretty much an instantaneous burst of light, it will freeze action / camera shake.

Therefore you simply don’t see camera shake .. even though it probably does exist to some extent in the background.

Who do we talk to about getting this thread stickied?
I feel like we'd get alot more traffic compared to the Comic book thread up there.
