The Official Netflix Marvel's "Iron Fist" Thread

Everyone knows that.
The point of not casting a white guy to play Danny Rand is the same reason people were annoyed about the Dr. Strange casting...it is yet another story of a white savior from The West rolling into an Asian community and becoming the Chosen One who is better at a thing that is a way of life for this 100% minority civilization.
So to avoid that criticism they could have just hired any American Asian actor in Hollywood right now instead of the whitest white guy on the planet.

People was actually mad about the tilda swanson casting but marvel did that to avoid any potential conflicts of interest in the chinese movie markets... the ancient one originally is tibetian I think and politically it wouldn't have been a good look for them. money wise...

Why is this issue such a problem?! I just don't get it... He is not gonna be the white savior... Also dont get mad at the idea of a white man getting powers and fighting asians and other people and being better than others blame the creators for creating this character. shyt blame the creators cause all they made was white characters put into positions of power...

Maybe the show just isn't that good and has little to do with the main character's ethnicity? Is that possible?
I mean if he was Asian that would be fine, but not changing the source material is fine to.

Like you said Batman fine, Ra's al Ghul fine, Daredevil fine, Stick fine. Iron Fist?! Fukk he needs to be Asian! It doesn't make a lot of sense. lol

How do you know, you haven't actually seen the show yet?

I get the concerns people had about Danny Rand being white in the show. Just like alot of them went into Luke Cage's show complaining he was too black for them to relate... let us not forget how these muthafukkas was crying bout that shyt...

I hear you but I think what @Jello Biafra is saying and others are saying is you could've gone another direction now they you're not tied to the politics of the 60s and 70s now where putting anyone besides a white guy as the lead was hard to do. Doesn't bug me but I get where they're coming from. Like you can change it up now

i think casting iron fist as an asian guy would have been a bold move. storywise it makes theoretical sense and it would help him stand out from the rest of the marvel lineup.

but on the flip side i could see why the world's biggest iron fist fan would be against changing something that's been inherent to the character since it's inception.

Again, i'd rather them have just made a Shang Chi netflix show, and made him the 4th Defender.

I don't really see the emotional attachment to Danny Rand (outside of him being white and more utilized by white writers in Marvel's white-dominated publication history). And you could always just amplify Shang Chi's "chi" to have a similar effect as Danny's iron fist ability. Plus his back story is better (imo).

I'd have given Shang the netflix show and just had Danny guest appear as the Chuck Norris to his Bruce Lee.

I'll reserve judgement for myself but this never looked that great.

Marvel Netflix so far has been good to okay. It's never as good as its capable of being. Like they always have 8 episodes worth of material and stretch it out to 13 episodes every show.

As for the racial debate I see where everyone is coming from.


On one side you want to be faithful to the comics. On the other side you have to have some self awareness of the times we live in as well as the fact sometimes things from the comics just aren't going to translate well.


Marco Polo another Netflix show would be a hundred times better if they just stuck with an all Asian cast and ditched the token white guy lead.

The red flag of this show was always the show runner though. Anybody that's seen those seasons of dexter was always about the choice.
