Assuming Jon Jones continues his reign as champ I'm thinking UFC would like his path of contenders to be Glover, Gus, Cormier then Phil Davis. Based on that I think they'll give Cormier the Lil' Nog fight, wouldn't be surprised if he just sits on that win for 6-7 months until Jones is done with Glover and Alex. Rashad would be left with the Shogun/Te-Huna winner and Phil can fight Bader.

Jones/Glover - April/May
Jones/Gus - August/Sept
Jones/Cormier - Dec/Jan

LHW is lacking contenders, why in the world the UFC hold a mini tournament? A mini tournament kills off 2-3 potential contenders.

Tournaments create contenders when there is a lack or a log job in the middle. Look at Cormier, he was never a real contender at HW, but a HW tournament propelled him into that position in Strikeforce, and hes still riding that wave.

It's looking like the UFC is going to do Glover/Jones in March or April. The winner of that fight vs Gus (assuming he gets passed Manuwa, which he should). In the meantime, Cormier will face Rashad, winner of that fight will need to get 1 more solid win and then a title shot. That makes a lot more sense for the UFC.

What you are describing of between glover, jones, gus, manuwa, rashad and cormier is exactly an unofficial tournment which the ufc does all the time, even Dana stated this before about the welterweight match ups in Montreal before. UFC 158 and the ufc on fox card is an example of a mini unofficial UFC tourney. They had GSP vs Diaz as the headliner, you then had hendricks vs condit winner go ta title fight against gsp. you then had ellenberger vs marquadt, winner got to fight Rory. On that same card where Rory fought ellenberger, you had the lower tier of that tourney with lawler getting a win over voelker which got him the winner of Rory and ellenberger.

If Jones is healthy and good to go for March or April, why would the UFC let him sit out? If Jones is ready to fight, there is no chance the UFC puts him on the shelf for an extended period of time.

well thats a big IF, already 1nce Jones and the ufc thought he would be ready and announced the fight and the very next day they had to postpone it already. Let the guy get a couple extra months to rest instead of this guess work and announcing and then postponing fights over and over. Jones nor his own doctors know exactly when he will be ready hence the timeline of spring maybe march or april, possible may they saying.

yeah this is the exact scenario I'm dreading, just because I find it a waste for a fighter like Rashad to be wasting his time in fights against Te Huna, badr and even phil davis again. I would rather see him cut da weight and drop down to MW. But my only guess the thing hesitating that drop is Vitor is still in the MW mix to have the next title shot.

REALLY? :ld: I am cool with it even tho its impossible to expect jones to fight 3 times in one year from here on out.But yeah it gives the division a boxing matchmaking feel. The only dicey bit is what the contenders do as they wait

all i can think of is woah thats a lot of UFNs with a load of international talent. If they plan on doing this ridiculous number of shows why keep saying the roster needs to be trimmed :why:

ps Thiago has withdrawn from his fight with OSP apparently :ehh:

yeah I should've been more clear, I'm not dreading the Bones Jones 3 match ups. I'm dreading just the Rashad evans fightin the scrubs part. As between Jones fights we'll be stuck watching some horrible lhw fights.

Sounds like Fox is really trying to make the UFC a regular sport now like baseball and football or gulp WWE. Where every week there is a fight, and every month has 1 ppv and some months will have 2 ppv's if its a title fight.

Those won't all be shown. They'll be local Eastern European and Asian shows. The UFC will be running it's own minor leagues. They've been planning it out for like two years now.
