i dont know if aldo's black belt is legit, but he definitely has enough skill and knowledge in BJJ to help him against conor. he's competed in world tournaments and placed in several of them and that's probably more than enough against conor from what we've seen so far. a blue belt will probably be able to work conor on the ground :yeshrug:

That's the thing, we've barely seen Conor on the ground. Dennis Siver couldn't keep him down at all and he walked into the Mendes fight on an 80% torn ACL (and 2 weeks prep for a wrestler/grappler), so I'm not sure you can fairly say that proves anything. Aldo is seriously decorated in BJJ so I'm not arguing that Conor's better, but I just think people judge Conor's ground game too heavily. It's still unproven in both directions, bad or good.

from what i remember, Conor's ground game is to get the fukk back up & he is good at it. just like Chuck Liddel and many other current and former MMA fighters, their strength is not on the ground & they know it so you play to your strengths, work on defense and work on getting back up when you do get taken down. train for specific defenses if your opponent is good at certain techniques (like Holly Holm did against Ronda's armbar) and get it back to the feet. it's not a bad thing when a fighter is good at stand up and they work to keep it there instead of taking it to the ground. i like a well rounded fighter as much as the next guy (Cowboy is my fav fighter right now and he has wins from submissions as well as KOs) but it's just as good to see a guy who knows what he does best and can defend take downs or get back up at will, it shows the other guy isn't as good as some people think.

John Dodson wants Thomas Almeida in his bantamweight return

John Dodson
doesn't have an opponent lined up for his return to bantamweight.

But he's got one in mind.

MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani reported on Wednesday's edition of UFC Tonight that Dodson's manager, Ricky Kottenstette, has asked for a fight with undefeated up-and-comer Thomas Almeida.

That could be a good fight :obama:

Dodson gets a decent challenge in his first fight back at 135, and Almeida gets a legitimate opponent to prove himself against.
