Wrestler is overrated in MMA, it's not hard to learn, Gus took Cormier down and he sucked at wrestling when he first lost to Phil Davis

haters gonna hate though

I wldnt say that wrestling is the Holy grail of mma or end all and be all. But I think that having a wrestling base mks it easier to get into mma and have relative success.

I also think out of all the disciplines of mma, wrestling is the easiest to learn if your dedicated compared to boxing, kickboxing, bjj etc etc.

But no matter what discipline you are skilled in if you are in the top tier of that class you are going to fair well in mma.

GSP is a great example, he came into the ufc wit a bunch of karate kicks n spin kicks. He got his butt whooped, took some time off learned/improved his wrestling and then known as 1 of the top wrestlers in mma, and out wrestled every1 over n over again as champ.

GSP got his butt what lmao, he has 2 losss his whole career, and they both were from mental mistakes which is why he avenged both by KO

also he been wrestling since he was 16, bad example

europeans are too big on wrestling and lean to striking more

gus was wrestled to death by phil davis, 3 years later Jon Jones can't even take him down

like I said learning to defend take downs isn't some mystical art

Coming from some1 who knows GSP don't believe all that gsp was an amazing best in class wrestler since he was young ish. He was mainly a karate guy and if you go back and watch his early fights you'll see a totally different GSP, he was trying spinning back kicks everywhere. I never said GSP lost his early fights, but he wasn't the dominate big wrestler that he was latter in his career. He use 2 get hit a lot more and the bouts would be real fights, not just watching GSP gound n pound a guy for 5 rounds for a decision.

But more on to the main point, you can learn wrestling and develop key points such as take down defence, underhooks and leverage a lot quicker and easier than trying to learn BJJ or muay thai. Its a great base to have in mma and the easiest base to learn and develop. There are so many great muay thai and kick boxers but its a harder road to the top for many of them in mma unless they are on the upper echelon of their class.

I didn't say this. You don't need to be an amazing wrestler to be at the top in MMA that was my point the entire time

I know mine too, I wasn't completely disagreeing with you.

Just pointing out the wrestling is the best base to have as its the quickest n easiest to learn/develop compared to many other forms of martial arts.

I remember chuck liddell use 2 be hyped as this great striker, he cm over for that pride tourney n he looked like an amateur compared to the vicious strikers in pride

Did I see a third place finish at ADCC on his resume? That'd be crazy, ain't a lot of TUF competitors ready for that level of submission fighting.
Breh I'm saying............ADCC is no joke

Stylistically what Rockhold has to worry about with Weidman
“I’m not so much worried about Chris. We’re just focusing on myself and my attributes, my intangibles that he doesn’t have. He wants my speed, my athleticism and my overall game. I believe I have more cardio, I have more heart, more will, more technical in every aspect of the game I think. I respect his wrestling. I think he thinks it’s going to play too much of a role. It’s really gonna be…I’m gonna shut down his wrestling, I’m gonna open up every other hole in his game. I think he’s slow and he’s got he’s gotten by on his toughness and his wrestling. I’m gonna be faster, I’m gonna hit him harder, and I’m gonna challenge him in ways he hasn’t [been challenged before]. I’m gonna put on a pace that he hasn’t felt before, and I’m not running from the man. Trust me. I’m gonna be hunting this guy down like I hunt every fighter down. You know, I hunt ‘em and then I bait them in. I hunt them and I bait them in. This is going to be no different, come 12th of December.”

How the IV ban affects Rockhold and how he thinks it will affect Weidman
I did the majority of my career without IV’s. I’ve only been using IV’s as of recent. But I’ve got my work cut down, pretty much to a scientific method. I’ve even taken the next step further, in hiring someone on to replenish me and to get my diet and everything right. So the weight will come off right.”

“I’ve never had much of an issue. Weidman seems to struggle. I mean you can see it. You know, weight cuts affect you later on in the fight too. Weidman has a hard time making it five rounds, and probably due to his lack of experience in a proper weight cut. I want the best Weidman. I don’t want any excuses about weight cut or nothing, so I want this guy to hopefully take the right steps and do the right thing so that we get the best fight possible for the fans.”

On if Rockhold is as nervous about initially engaging in striking with Weidman as he was when he fought Machida
“I don’t like striking quickly off the bat with anybody. I like finding my timing and understanding my distance, and then engaging. I didn’t expect for a firefight so quickly with Machida. I think it was due to maybe his nervousness, but he was forced to engage quickly and try to catch me off guard. With Weidman, I expect him to come forward and push the pace in a kinda similar way. I’m gonna find my timing and defend his wrestling and his pressure, and then I’m gonna beat him and put my own pressure on him. So, you know, Weidman likes to strike quick. I think it might not be the smartest thing for him to come in too quickly in this fight. I can cut an angle and I can counter him. I’m not scared of Weidman. He’s fighting all these guys that are scared of his wrestling and letting him dictate the pace of the fight. I dictate the pace of my fights and no one else and like I said, same thing on 12th of the 12th.”

Training with DC and Cain, and if Luke thinks Weidman can show him anything in wrestling he hasn’t seen before
“No. He’s not going to bring anything that I’m not used to. I’m a much higher level in the wrestling. I know he’s good on the feet, I know he’s good on the ground, but same thing as with Machida on the ground. I have a different level of speed and athleticism and funk, and he’s not going to keep up with me. If he wants to take it to the ground, he’s not going to be able to keep up. You know, it’s the same thing on the feet. I’ve just got those intangibles that he can’t keep up with, whether on the ground or on the feet, and that’s why I plan on exposing every weakness he has.”

If Weidman’s hype is warranted
“I think he’s a very tough guy. I think he’s gotten into this division at the right time. But it’s a new age and there’s a new crop of guys coming up that are on a different level than anyone he’s ever faced, and I’m leading the way. He’s in trouble.”
“People wanna say this is a close fight. I don’t see it as [a close fight] though. I think Chris is gonna be tough for a round, maybe two. I’m gonna run away with this fight and I’m gonna take the belt home. Another belt coming back to AKA. Chris is just too slow, he’s too slow, he’s too slow. That’s all I gotta say. He’s slow, slow, and he’s slow.”

On if Luke wins the title if he’d be open to fighting Anderson Silva
“Of course. Why wouldn’t I? Anderson Silva is Anderson Silva, and you know, that’s a big money fight. So I welcome those big names to come back and work their way back up the ranks. I would love nothing more than a fight with Anderson and Vitor [Belfort], and so on. I don’t think they’re as credible as the rest of the guys, but I like money and I like making numbers.”

On if Luke feels it’s important to get the Anderson fight, as many people compared the two when he was StrikeForce champ and he never got a chance to fight him
“It’s a fight I wanted for a long time back in the day, and I wasn’t able to get it. It’s definitely something that interests me, and I’d love to have an opportunity to get back and get in there with a legend like Anderson Silva.

Luke’s prediction on how beats Weidman at UFC 194
“I’m going to shut Chris Weidman down in the first round. I’m gonna expose him in the second round. And I’m gonna finish him with a left kick, followed by a left punch, simultaneously.”

Luke’s early morning drug testing experience with USADA
“Two days ago they showed up on my doorstep; showed up at 6:45am. I had no idea they would show up. So they called me, over and over again. And I was sitting there, and I kept turning off my phone like, “who the fukk is calling me right now, ten time in a row at 6:45”. And I finally picked up the phone like “WHAT?!” yelled at the phone, and he was like “hey this is so-and-so from USADA, we’re at your doorstep right now. We’re trying to get in”. I’m like, oh my god, these people are for real. So they came up [did a] blood test, piss test. So I feel comfortable with that. I like the fact that it happened. I mean, they invade your privacy a little bit, but for the better of the sport I’m open to it.”
“There was actually three agents. So they go through the process, depending on how long it takes for you to take a piss. They have a 20-minute waiting period where you need to be sitting down before they start taking any blood test. Unfortunately for me, I pissed, woke up at about five o’clock, sleep-walked to the pisser and dropped a big piss, so I couldn’t piss for quite a while. So I was stuck with them for about an hour at my place. But they’re alright. They’re okay people, just doing their job.”

Copied and pasted from Sherdog. Rockhold seems pretty confident:ehh:

Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
Now lets tally up the expenses from the fighter’s 10k/10k purse.

A fighter wins and earns $20,000:

  • -$2,000 (gym / team)
  • $4,000 (management)
  • $6,000 (taxes)
  • $500 (medicals)
  • $1,000 (coaching)
  • $1,000 (Misc.)
Total Expenses: $14,500

$20,000 – $14,500 = $5,500 is the fighters profit.
**Reebok uniforms pay UFC fighters anywhere from $2,500-$20,000 per fight
**UFC offers discretionary bonuses based on performance (not guaranteed)

A fighter loses and earns $10,000:

  • $1,000 (team)
  • $2,000 (management)
  • $3,000 (taxes)
  • $500 (medicals)
  • $1,000 (coaching)
  • $1,000 (misc)
Total Expenses: $8,500

$10,000 – $8,500 = $1,500 would be the fighter profit, putting him in a spot of needing to fight again ASAP.

You are fighting for the love of it, if you aren't trying to parley this into a school/gym I don't know what to tell you.
