I spoke with three prominent agent sources today to gauge what they’re hearing about the Denver Broncos’ interest in
Jim Harbaugh following reports of that organization’s plan to interview him.
Two of the agents shared their belief that Harbaugh is at the top of the Broncos list, with one stating, “There is a lot of shared history between Jim, the Broncos, and Jim’s time that was at Stanford. There’s a strong preexisting relationship.” (Some of those connections were detailed in a Sunday
NFL.com report).
The third agent couldn’t offer an informed opinion on where Harbaugh is in Denver’s pecking order, but didn’t dismiss the talk of the organization’s serious interest. That’s significant considering his insistence throughout last year’s NFL hiring cycle that Harbaugh was not a candidate for almost all the jobs media reports linked him to. He agreed that there is “serious interest”, and speculated as to why Harbaugh might be at the top of the list.
“
Sean Payton can afford to wait for the perfect job,” the agent said. “Denver just doesn’t strike me as that. And I don’t think they have enough (draft resources) to trade for him. They think they do, but I just don’t see how.”
Harbaugh obviously doesn’t come with that price tag,
I also spoke with a family member of a top Michigan recruiting target who’s being represented by a prominent sports agency in his NIL pursuits. The family member said their agency rep told them, “Harbaugh is gone” if an offer comes. That perspective has impacted their thinking more than bombardment of negative recruiting they’re hearing from other schools currently because it lacks the obvious bias.
The family shared that they’ve already spoken to Michigan assistant coaches and hope to connect with Harbaugh himself soon.
It’s important to reiterate is all of the above are agent perspectives, and it’s perspectives from those circles that likely driving much of the commentary on Harbaugh and the NFL in recent reports.
As for the vibe in Ann Arbor, it’s worthy of note that no one is speaking in definitive terms about what Harbaugh will ultimately do. All the university sources I connected with again today said that while they can’t say for sure that Harbaugh is staying put, they remain confident that that is the likely outcome. One source told me “I think he’s coming back at least one more year because of what’s returning. A national championship contender is coming back. He’ll have NFL opportunities again after next season if he wants to explore them.”
And that was
before Blake Corum’s announcement this afternoon.
Stay tuned for more intel on the Harbaugh front in the coming days. In the meantime, check out our

As always, stay tuned.
