So y'all are in line for that Nuuta cat since Richt is gone?
Mark Richt has been fired from Georgia per multiple reports.

From Michigan's standpoint, this has an effect on two major targets in five-stars Isaac Nauta (TE) and Mecole Hardman (ATH). Hardman is still on Michigan's campus and we don't even really know how the visit went, although it's safe to assume it went well.

With Nauta, this is obviously going to help Michigan's chances with him, and it's a best case scenario as far as the Wolverines are concerned. Once the rumors started swirling around Richt's job, Michigan became even more aggressive with him. Again, following his official visit, Michigan felt better than they ever have about their chances with him, and Richt's firing is another example of the chips falling the right way for the staff to have their best possible chance with him.

All that said, gauging its true effect will only be known once the new hire is made. Most believe that Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart will be the next guy in line in Athens. It's a good hire for the Bulldogs, but Smart has no head coaching experience, so it will be hard to determine how offensive recruits react. He may be fine with defensive recruits due to his long-term track record in Tuscaloosa.

Seems like its dependent on the hire:manny:

I would like to see the Florida-Michigan match up. Both teams from last year go wee expected to do good then failed and lost both coaches. Both coaches worked well with what they had and came back strong for both programs. Either way anytime we can shyt on the sec I'm game.

The following was posted by some dude on Twitter this afternoon ….

I am being told by sources close to the Michigan athletic department that this is not accurate. At the very least, people in the U of M athletic department do not believe anything is imminent and are dubious that D.J. Durkin will leave the Wolverines for the Terps’ head gig.

Folks in Ann Arbor believe that Durkin will wait for a more prestigious job than the one Randy Edsall lost.

We shall see, but these sources in A2 have not steered me wrong so far.

Wanted to give everyone an idea of the mindset on the recruiting trail following yesterday's loss.....

1. One loss never makes a difference in recruiting. Fans are tired of losing to Ohio State, and tired of losing to them in the fashion they lost to them yesterday. However, from a recruit's perspective, they are focused on the future, and most (if not all) see Michigan's 9-3 record as a strong sign that they are going to turn things around in Ann Arbor sooner rather than later. The adage I always take regarding losses and recruiting is simple: if one loss changes a player's mind on Michigan (or any other school), they weren't that interested to begin with.

2. I talked to an excellent source about the overall atmosphere post-game and whether or not it would affect them with some of the top targets on campus. Their response should calm some nerves.

"Not at all," they said. "In fact, it's just about the opposite. The elite kids see a talent deficiency at some positions with a chance to play early. Ohio State exploited those areas."

The strong consensus is that Michigan isn't in any less of a standing with any of the visitors than they were heading into the weekend, and they improved their spot with most prospects. This isn't necessarily a surprise, despite the outcome of the game. I think most view it like Ambry Thomas did in his reaction yesterday, which is to not put a lot of stock into one loss if you're not even a player on the field.

3. We expected Pie Young to commit this weekend. He did not. Clint and I wondered aloud and it's worth noting that Young may be waiting to see who Miami (FL) hires to be their next coach. Given he is not a take right now for any of his other finalists, there wasn't much stopping him from pledging this weekend (Miami isn't listed as a finalist, but he's watching them). We'll see what happens; we still feel great about him eventually committing as of now.
