Walker: Things continue to look more and more positive for the Wolverines on the
Kareem Walker front. The 2016 #1 running back had a strong visit to Ann Arbor last weekend and reportedly gave him something to think about.
Things have accelerated even further now, as Ohio State will host four-star running back and current Wisconsin commit
Antonio Williams (New London, NC/North Stanly). It's reportedly an official visit, and sources on the Wisconsin side don't expect Williams to remain as part of their class past this weekend.
With Williams in the fold, it'd be a major surprise if Walker didn't open things back up. The one hold up here is that Walker has stated that he'd like to take other visits. Alabama and Ole Miss are two programs he's reportedly talked about looking at. That being said, Michigan would appear to be in the driver's seat if this plays out the way it's expected to.
2017 QBs: As Clint Brewster reported on Tuesday, Michigan's interest in Sayville (NY) 2017 three-star quarterback
Jack Coan has significantly faded, leaving two significant, uncommitted targets on board with Top100s
Dylan McCaffrey and
Davis Mills.
McCaffrey visits Ann Arbor this weekend for the second time. While I'm not going to put a Crystal Ball on him at this point, I do think Michigan leads after checking with sources on both sides of the situation. As was alluded to in the Coan thread, there's a reason Michigan A. hasn't offered anyone else and B. haven't pursued any of the other prospects on their board with much vigor.
The current consensus is that McCaffrey will probably not commit this weekend, but it apparently can't be ruled completely out. Duke may be the biggest threat in terms of schools that have offered this point. I would still keep an eye on Notre Dame if they extend a scholarship offer as well.
Kemp: It appears that Fairview (CO) Boulder 2016 four-star BUCK target
Carlo Kemp is torn between Michigan and Notre Dame. He's told us and we have confirmed with multiple sources that this could go either way. This isn't a major surprise as Notre Dame was a program he was very high on going into the visit.
As we've reported a few times, Kemp has maintained a strong relationship with Michigan commitment
Ben Bredeson, who ironically chose the Wolverines over the Irish this summer. The two have talked about why Bredeson chose Michigan and have discussed what it would be like to play on the same team, as they developed an immediate friendship on Kemp's first visit to campus for the BBQ in July. The two have maintained contact since his Notre Dame visit as well, with Bredeson doing his best to recruit Kemp to Ann Arbor.
This will end up being a race where I don't change my Crystal Ball unless something concrete on the Notre Dame side comes to fruition. It's too close to switch it and it appears he could end up going either way. Kemp is scheduled to visit Colorado this weekend, who isn't a factor. He is likely to make a decision sometime in the near future, but doesn't have a set date.
Bits
- Washington, Notre Dame and Michigan all have a shot to flip Top100 cornerback David Long from Stanford. As Steve Wiltfong said on Monday, the Wolverines are going to roll out the red carpet for Long. They've recruited him longer and harder than Notre Dame, and showcase an elite defense that will give Long something to think about.
As Long told 247Sports National Analyst Ryan Bartow when he set his Michigan official, Jim Harbaugh is the one that built Stanford and made it a destination for elite recruits to want to play at.
- Confirmed that it's likely going to be Florida or Michigan for 2016 three-star tight end
Jacob Mathis. Mathis had an excellent visit to Ann Arbor last weekend. Ole Miss may have an outside shot, but it's likely either the Gators or the Wolverines as of now.
- Michigan offered 2017 five-star cornerback
Deangelo Gibbs on Tuesday night. Gibbs is arguably the best defensive back in the 2017 class and Michigan is literally one of the last major programs in the country to offer him. The timing of the offer is possibly an indicator that the Wolverines believe he could visit or that they have a shot with him.
