Wink Martindale interviews for Falcons defensive coordinator
Wink Martindale could be headed back to the NFL.www.nbcsports.com
Yeah, if they save Lynn fromDoug Mallory will be at the top of the list if Wink leaves
I hope he stays but I'm glad he rehabilitated his image and may have NFL suitors.
Yeah, if they save Lynn from, he's going to flip it for a college HC or NFL DC job. Which is fine but I'd rather not play musical DC every to every other off-season.![]()
Mallory knows Michigan's amoeba, so there shouldn't be any transition costs like last off-season. He's actually called plays before although it was over a decade ago. Which honestly isn't that different than Joe Cullen, who was the top target last off-season.
Whats Mallory's connection to this defense?Lynn will go to PSU he's an alum. I'm good with Mallory he was a big part in designing the pass coverages for 3 years plus it won't stray too far off with what we're doing
The former Michigan defensive back was a defensive analyst in Ann Arbor from 2021-2023 and was a highly valued member of that championship staff when it came to coverage variations and offensive attack strategies (against Michigan). One of his most talked about contributions was in the national championship game where Michigan was said to have as many as 30 coverage variations on the back end. Sources inside the program credited Mallory with many (all?) of those schemes. Quarterbacks and receivers late in that championship season often commented that Michigan came with looks they hadn't prepared for… well, here is the back-end guy that was coming up with a lot of those looks.Whats Mallory's connection to this defense?
Like Sam's work but I think people are understating a transition from Wink. Mallory is entrenched in the scheme for sure, but I would also say its been a while since he called plays and the Raven's secondary was iffy at times this year. The former Michigan defensive back was a defensive analyst in Ann Arbor from 2021-2023 and was a highly valued member of that championship staff when it came to coverage variations and offensive attack strategies (against Michigan). Our pass defense when Mallory was here was top 5 nationally. I'm not too concerned Baltimore also had a first time defensive coordinator as wellLike Sam's work but I think people are understating a transition from Wink.
