Stephen Adegoke – Safeties (Houston Texans) –Adegoke, who is coming off his first year as an NFL position coach, has quietly emerged as one of the top targets on the board. He followed Texans headman DeMeco Ryans H-town from the San Francisco 49ers (where Ryans was the defensive coordinator and Adegoke was a quality control coach). Before that he served as a graduate assistant for the University of Michigan during the 2021 season. Adegoke was around for Mike Macdonald’s installation of the Ravens scheme that helped propel the Wolverines to new heights. Not only is he versed in the scheme, but he quickly established great working relationships with players and staff, and those who remain rave about him. He’d be the proverbial plug and play guy. He’d also bring in other schematic influences like Ryans and former Michigan defensive coordinator and current Louisville defensive coordinator Ron English. Adegoke played safety for English at Mississippi State in 2017 and was English’s graduate assistant at Florida from 2019-2020.

Lamar Morgan – Defensive Coordinator / Safeties (Louisiana) – This may be the most intriguing name that I’ve heard in the mix. A former standout safety for the Ragin Cajuns from 2003-2007, Morgan commanded a strong defensive showing by his alma mater during his first year as a play-caller in 2021. According to his bio, “(Morgan’s) defense ranked in the top half of the Sun Belt Conference in total defense and the team recorded 15 interceptions which ranked 14th nationally.” Morgan had previously coached cornerbacks for Louisiana from 2019-2020 before heading to Vanderbilt to coach cornerbacks for 2021 season. While there he worked under then-defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. Sources say Morgan was on Minter’s short list of targets to coach in Michigan’s secondary if Steve Clinkscale or Jay Harbaugh moved on. Sources say Morgan comes highly recommended by Minter, knows the Ravens scheme, and would undoubtedly bring southern recruiting ties thanks to having also coached safeties at Houston in 2018 and Louisiana Monroe 2016-17, and the secondary at Western Carolina 2014-15. He’d also be another coach with play-calling experience and could be a potential understudy to Wink Martindale.

Corey Parker – Cornerbacks (Toledo) – This is the hometown favorite. The former River Rouge headman was on the verge of joining Michigan’s staff two years ago as an analyst when the on-field opportunity at Toledo presented itself. In his two short years with the Rockets, he’s left an indelible imprint on the secondary. His crowning achievement is the emergence of All-American corner Quinyon Mitchell. Before Parker’s arrival, Mitchell started all 13 games during a sophomore campaign in 2021 that didn’t garner much attention. But the 6-0, 196-pounder’s junior year with Parker was a different story. Mitchell exploded onto the conference and national scenes, improving from eight passes defensed as a sophomore, to a nation-leading 25 as a junior. His ball-hawking skills stood out again last year, as he notched 19 more passes defensed in 2023. That was enough to rocket Mitchell up draft boards and he currently projects as a first round pick. He would be the first Toledo player to be selected in the first round since 1966 if that projection holds. Parker’s work didn’t stop there. He also impacted Mitchell’s running mate on the other side, Chris McDonald. He finished last year with 10 passes defensed and is being projected a 5th – 7th rounder. Parker’s biggest hurdle is he’s a two-year college coach who has only coached corners, but he has to be on the board because his upside is so obvious. His acumen as a coach and as a recruiter are strong enough to consider augmenting his potential hire with a senior analyst similar to Doug Mallory (who left Michigan a couple of weeks ago to become a secondary coach with the Ravens). Speaking of the Ravens, Parker would bring familiarity with the scheme. He benefitted from a professional development opportunity with Baltimore before his first year at Toledo thanks to the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching fellowship. He spent a couple weeks going to meetings with Mike Macdonald and secondary coach Chris Hewitt, so there’s at least some schematic comfort.

I keep hearing Parker is a long shot, but his name appears to be in the conversation .. Don't know too much about Morgan.. and Adegoke sounds like a home run.

Parker is only a long shot if they only want 1 coach for corners and safeties. Basically Brown will either coach at RB or 1 of corner/safeties but they need to know what Mike Hart will do. If its RB then 2 slots to address corners and safeties.
